Today was the day. The Aptitude test and tommarow will be the choosing ceremony.
I wasn't nervous, I mean why would I be? It's just a test.
"Peter! Get going or you'll miss the bus!" Called my dad.
"Yeah, yeah," I called back.
I hate Candor. It's the most annoying faction of them all, but not as annoying as those weirdos from Amity. Nobody can be that happy all the time.
When I got downstairs my dad put does his mug of coffee, and my little brother Henery ran towards me to give me a hug. Henery was only 10 years old, he was the only one I'll probably miss when I decide to transfer. I'm not sure which faction I'll choose but anything would be better then staying here where the memories of my dead mother are. My mom dies during child birth, its been hard living without a mom but I managed.
"Are you coming back, Peter?" Henery asked as I picked him up and carried him to the couch.
"Yeah of course, its just the test." I replied putting him on the couch
My dad turned around, "I believe he means after the choosing ceremony."
I got quiet. How do you explain to a 10 year old that your leaving and not planning on coming back.
"Most likely, I better get going." I said quickly and walked out to the bus stop.
The bus arrived as soon as I came and one of the Stiffs stood up to give me there seat. I'm not sure why they do that. I mean what's so selfish about sitting down?
"Nah I'm good." I told the Stiff and remained standing.
The stiff stared at me but didn't sit back down.
The bus finally stopped at the school and I got off and met up with my friends Molly and Drew.
Molly was watchi the train where the Dauntless jumped off. They do that everyday to prove there bravery or something like that. I'm not sure what's so brave about jumping off a moving train for no reason.
"Considering transferring?" Asked Molly noticing my stare.
I shrugged, "Anythings better then Candor." I replied.
We then walked in the cafeteria where everyone sat with there factions.
Before I even got a chance to sit down my name and 9 other names were called.
I sighed and walked towards the door to the Aptitude Test room.
A tan, tall, black haired dauntless woman stood before me, "Hello. I'm Tori, I will be your Aptitude Test administrator, please take a seat."
I then sat in a dentist like chair and she handed me a cup of clear liquid.
"Here, it doesn't hurt or really taste like anything." She said preparing some wires.
"Nice tattoos," I said taking the cup from her and drinking it.
"Thanks, hope your not scared of needles." She said taking out a syringe. I flinched but she held my shoulder and injected me with the syringe.
"You will be put through a series of simulations up too three. It'll be over before you know it," she said hooking herself up to some electrodes.
I then began to slowly close my eyes.
When I opened them I was back in the cafeteria but it was dark an empty. Only a table with a knife and cheese sat there.
"Choose one." Said a voice.
"Why?" I asked.
"Choose one." The voice repeated.
I sighed and grabbed the knife.
Then the cheese and the table disappeared and the door opened, it was a giant black dog, with sharp teeth entered the room growling at me.
I backed up, I was petrified of dogs. My neighbor had a similar looking dog when I was 7 and it bit my hand and I had to get stitches.
The dog inched towards me and I dropped the knife and backed up, "Nice dog..." I mumbled.
Then a little girl in a white dress ran in, "Doggy!" She squealed.
The dog them turned away from me and too the little girl and ran towards her.
"No!" I yelled and jumped onto the little girl.
Suddenly the scene changed. The little girl and the dog were gone and I was on a bus. There was only one seat open and that was next to a creepy large man with scars all over his hands, he was reading a newspaper. I then mad my way towards him and sat next to him looking straight ahead.
"Do you know this guy?" The man asked showing me a picture of a man that did look vaguely familiar to me.
"Uh I'm not sure," I replied.
"Your lying!" He snapped.
"No I'm not." I said trying to look away, I couldn't stand up there was now someone holding the pole next to my seat.
"Please, you could save me." He said with pleading eyes.
"Yes, I might know him." I said giving up on lying.
I then woke up from the simulation gasping for air and turned to Tori.
"Abnegation." Tori said typing a few things.
What? "What?" I said shocked. How am I a stiff?!
"Your result is Abnegation." Tori replied, "You saved the little girl instead of yourself, you admited to the man that you knew-"
"I was being brave not selfless!" I snapped.
"Listen kid, this doesn't mean you have to choose Abnegation."
"But how could I get a faction where you can't even look in the mirror?!" I clentched my fists.
"Oh like your something to look at! Now get out and call the next person in," Tori said rolling her eyes.
I got up angrily.
I officially hate Stiffs.
I marched out of the cafeteria, I could feel serveral eyes on me but I don't care.
I then walked home and opened the door. Dad went to work and Henery was watching TV.
"Peter!" Henery called to me from the family room.
I closed the door and walked to him rubbing my head, "Hey." I said sitting next to him.
"What's wrong?" He asked confused.
"Nothing, why aren't you at school?" I asked.
"We head no school because of the tests," he replied and continued watching TV.
Sometimes I wished I was as innocent as Henery. I wish I didn't have to leave tommarow. I wish I wasn't such a horrible person for wanting to leave him.
