Okay. So first off, this first chapter will be short. Don't worry though, I made it shorter on purpose. I want to see how well this goes before I update anymore.

Also, some things won't be the same as it is in the books, so please don't be like my friend and point out every difference. 😂 And before I forget, all rights go to the amazing Suzanne Collins. So, here goes nothing. Hope you all don't hate it too much 😂

Katniss P.O.V.

"If it weren't for the baby." Those six words have caused a lot of debate. And now Peeta and I are left to wait and see what Snow has in store for us.

"He won't cancel," I say. Peeta looks over at me and slowly nods.

"I know," he replies. "But it was worth a shot."

We're both quiet for a moment before Peeta speaks up again.

"You have every right to be mad at me if you want to be."

I laugh a little and shake my head. "I'm not mad," I say truthfully. "But a heads up would have been nice."

"I'll have to remember that for next time." I find myself genuinely smiling at him, but I quickly turn away. "Look, Katniss…" Before he can continue, Haymitch walks into the room.

"Go ahead and tells us what we already know," I say. "Snow didn't cancel the Games."

"No," Haymitch replies. "He postponed it." I just stare at him for a moment, trying to process what he just said.

"Until when?" I ask.

"He didn't make that clear," Haymitch says. "But what he did make clear is that you two have four months."

"Four months for what?" Peeta asks. But I can already guess the answer.

"To conceive," I say. Haymitch slowly nods his head. "Snow knows that I'm not pregnant. Why would he cancel the Games then?"

"I don't know," Haymitch answers.

"What will happen if Katniss isn't pregnant in four months?" Peeta asks.

Haymitch shrugs. "Your guess is as good as mine."

My mind immediately goes to Prim. What will happen to her if Peeta and I don't have a baby?"

"So what now?" I ask.

"Get some rest," Haymitch says. "We'll head back home in the morning." Peeta and I both nod, and Haymitch walks off.

"I've really messed things up," Peeta says. I shake my head.

"It's not your fault," I say truthfully. I decide to ask the inevitable question. "What are we going to do? I don't want kids, and this is the reason. Snow will find one way or another to make sure that they get picked for the Games."

"That's why Snow did this," Peeta says. "He knew it would be worse punishment to force us to have a kid and watch them be thrown into the Games, than it would for us to have to go through the Games twice."

"Makes you wonder how one man can be so heartless," I say.

"Let's take Haymitch's advice and get some rest for now," Peeta says. "We can talk about this more when we get home." I nod my head and we walk off to our rooms. When Peeta starts walking in the opposite direction, I stop him.

"Peeta," I say quietly. He turns to face me and I take a deep breath. "Please don't make me sleep alone tonight. I can't face the nightmares by myself." Peeta just looks at me for a moment.

"Are you sure?" he asks. I nod my head and we both walk into my room. We lay down side by side on my bed, but neither of us sleep.
