What do you say in a moment when no words will do yet too many things to be said? The deaths, the titans, what happens next, Eren, my sudden blood thirst for titans, the supply squads, apologies, consolation. I couldn't do all of it at once. So I settled for staring in turn at my fellow cadets. The silence was eventually shattered by Sasha.
"That was freaking AWESOME!" She cheered, smiling at me. "You totally kick ass!"
"W-Would you like something to cover up with?" I heard Connie tentatively ask, followed by many glares by the males shot his direction. I looked down at my body to see that the snug fitting gray tank was now glued to my body with nothing to hide my bulging chest.
"I think that would be nice," I spoke as I was handed a green cape with the training corps emblem on the back.I looked back up at Mikasa who was walking toward me. I couldn't look at her. She was my bestfriend and I had failed her. "Mikasa, I..." She grabbed me and pulled me into her chest, hugging me tightly.
"I'm glad you're okay," She whispered to me. And then pulled away, her eyes void of any emotion. If possible, they looked more dead than before. She knew...Armin had told her.
"Marco," She turned away from me to face the freckle faced boy. "If we eliminate or bypass the titans at HQ, we can there refuel our gear allowing us to get back over the wall, is that assessment correct?" I quickly wrapped the cape around my shoulders, thankfully for the slight warmth and protection. I watched Mikasa carefully knowing that this personality of hers wasn't normal.
"Well, uh, yeah, I guess so. Sure, but there's just too many of them out there. Even with you on point!" Marco tried to reason. Mikasa looked at him, her voice loud and her eyes quiet.
"I can do it!" She withdrew her blades and faced us, raising her blades. "I'm strong, real strong, none of you come close!"
"You're also really suicidal right now, Mikasa, think!" I spoke up and she ignored me.
"You hear me? I am a warrior! Know this, I have the power to slay all of the titans that block our path! Even if I have to do it alone! As far as I'm concerned, I'm surrounded by a bunch of unskilled, cowardly worms!" Her eyes even touched mine and I felt my jaw drop as she pointed her sword at us. "You disappoint me, you can just sit here and twidle your thumbs and watch how it's done!"
There were many objections after her speech and I finally shouted at her. "Mikasa don't be narrow-minded! You'll die if you try to take down all of those titans on your own!"
"If I can't beat them, then I die. But, if I win, I live!" She turned her back to us and I glared at her. "And the only way to win is to fight!" And with that she dropped off the rooftop, shooting toward the HQ.
"You're an idiot!" I screamed after her. "An idiot with a death wish!" I started after her immediately when I heard disheartened mumbles and sighs. No one had made the move to join her. I spun around to look at them all incredulously. "You...You all can't be serious?"
"Serious about what?" One of the cadets sighed with a roll of his eyes. "Running out there like that is a death wish, you just said so,"
"So we let her die by herself!?" I shouted at him, clenching my fists.
"You know, I was expecting something more motivational," I heard Jean speak lowly, staring at the ground. I began to shake angrily. I had fought, tooth and nail, to get to these recruits and now they wanted to sit her like a bunch of roosting chickens?!
