Chikorita followed Rose outside curiously by her side. The Leaf Pokemon couldn't keep his bright ruby red eyes off of her. He seemed so awestruck by his new trainer as if he already admired her.
Rose took out her map and studied it for a brief moment, already knowing where she wanted to go. Chikorita tilted his head as Rose shut the top of her Town Map.
Rose smiled at her new Pokemon. "We are going to visit Lake Verity before anything Chikorita. The lake is West so let's go."
"Chii." Chikorita jumped around happily and ran around Rose's feet. Rose smiled down at her new companion and she made her way onto Route 201.
"If only I had decided to bring my other Pokemon with me. They would have loved to meet you."
Chikorita tilted his head in thought.
There were trainers around. Rose automatically avoided them and continued on her way. She didn't really want to mess with them because she was more interested in getting to Lake Verity. The walk was short and peaceful and the terrain wasn't that hard to get through so Rose got to Verity Lakefront fairly quick, spotting a sign so she read it.
"Lake Verity Ahead. According to legend, the lake is home to the Pokémon said to be "The being of Emotion". It is because of this Pokemon that people can experience sorrow and joy."
Rose breathed in. Emotion. She was very familiar with that word. In her past, she endured much emotion. Being sick and on the brink of dying. Being told she'd actually live past the age of ten. Her father leaving her mother and herself to go back to Johto.
Each though brought back each emotion she felt and her eyes teared up. She had to see the lake.
The lake was vast and crystal clear. The rolling waves crashing on the shore and the distant calls of wild Pokemon made her feel at peace with the inner turmoil that stirred within her once more and she breathed slowly.
"Chikorita. Isn't this place wonderful?" Rose asked.
"Chi chi-korita!" He purred in a high-pitched tone.
Rose laughed softly. "I wonder if we will see the Pokemon that is the Being of Emotion."
The Leaf Pokemon tilted his head in thought. Maybe he was wondering the same thing.
"Star star star!" A screech rang through the air.
Rose looked around suddenly, scooping up Chikorita. Bird Pokemon appeared from the sky in what seemed like an instant and Rose's eyes almost popped out of her head. She may have been a rookie at Pokemon battling still but she was smart enough to know that her Pokemon could not do well against bird Pokemon-- Flying Types.
"Korita!" Rose's Pokemon shouted at the three angry looking Starly. "Rita! Rita!"
The angry Flying Types squawked angrily at Chikorita in return.
Chikorita squirmed out of Rose's arms and jumped onto the ground. In an instant, her Pokemon used Tackle on one of the Flying Types that came too close and shouted at it again.
"Chikorita! No!" Rose shouted in despair.
"Chi chi!" He called back at her as if telling her not to worry about him but that was all Rose could do. She was worried sick.
One of the other Starly decided it was a good time to attack Chikorita. Flying toward the distracted Leaf Pokemon, Starly's beak began to glow. It was about to use Peck!
"Chikorita! Watch out!" Rose shouted, running toward her Pokemon even though her muscles screamed at her to slow down. She didn't listen that time and she jumped in front of her partner.
Chikorita's head was just beginning to turn when he noticed the oncoming Starly but he had no time to react. Rose got in front of Chikorita before the Starly did. In so, she received the oncoming attack and was thrown backward onto Chikorita. Rose blacked out and Chikorita could not move.
From afar, another Pokemon watched what had happened, its yellow eyes piercing. The Starly squawked in triumph, circling their prey.
"Sprite." The different Pokemon hissed out quietly and a pink aura coated the three bird Pokemon and they were suspended in air in less than a second. Then they were all effortlessly flung away.
Not too long after, the mystery Pokemon floated to Rose and Chikorita curiously.
The girl has a strange aura coming off of her.
Chikorita's head was filled with the sound of the Pokemon's voice. For all Chikorita could know it could have been actually talking aloud. He couldn't see.
The strange Pokemon touched the head of the trainer and sent out a pulse. The wound was healed almost immediately but it sensed an illness even it couldn't touch.
Be blessed, child with a heart of gold. The voice rang out for the last time.
After the last pulse was emitted from the mystery Pokemon, Rose stirred.
She sat up almost suddenly and her hands flew to her stomach. It didn't hurt like it had. What had happened while she had blacked out?
"Chikorita?" Rose suddenly called standing up.
"Chi." The Pokemon answered.
Rose swore she could feel the bewilderment coming off of him like she could feel it herself.
"Strange," she muttered. "I wonder what happened. Come on. Let's get out of here."
