Chapter 8: Stitch Then Staple

~Noah's POV~

I've been on bed rest for the past month ever since my injury from Baxter. The Alpha I killed. Yeah him. The injury on my back hasn't healed yet. Which is unusual for a werewolf. We typically heal fast. Alpha Kai and Sharma visit me every hour. They both blame themselves for not trying to help me. Not trying to break out of the straps to save me. Doc said I could've died that day. Dying is not on my bucket list. And it won't be anytime soon. Speaking of Alpha Kai, he walked in. Sadness taking over his features.
"Why the long face?" I joked.
He smiled.
"I'm not a horse, jackass." Alpha Kai said.
"And I'm not a donkey, bitch." I said.
"I'm not a female dog, asshat." Alpha Kai said.
"I'm not an article of clothing, you piece of shit." I said.
"I'm not something that comes out of your ass, crispy douche canoe." Alpha Kai said.
"I'm not something that comes with sticks that you stick in the water to push forward, Skittles." I said.
Alpha Kai chuckled.
"Taste the fucking rainbow." Alpha Kai said.
We sighed. It's nice to joke like this.
"I'll sell your soul to Satan for one corn chip." I said.
"What?" Alpha Kai asked.
"Exactly." I said.
He shook his head.
"What am I to do with you?" Alpha Kai asked himself.
"Get me the fuck out of here." I said.
"No. You're not allowed out." Alpha Kai said.
I stuck my tongue out at him.

"Oh stick it up your ass." I said.
Alpha Kai chuckled. Am I disrespecting him? Technically. But sharing a special and mate bond, being friends for years, and being his Lead Patrol and protector give me every right.
"See? This is my best friend right here. Not my sworn protector." Alpha Kai said.
"You're insulting, disrespectful best friend." I said.
"And I wouldn't have it any other way." Alpha Kai said.
"Awe cuz you gon' make me cry." I said.
"Shut up." Alpha Kai said.
"Make me, damn it." I said.
He leaned up against the frame of the hospital bed I was in.
"I'll give it to you hard." Alpha Kai said.
His eyes darkened with lust. I'm sure mine did the same.
"Bring it." I said.
His eyes went back to normal.
"When you're healed and the doctor says we can." Alpha Kai said.
"Ugh! You can't do that to me. You fucking tease." I said.
"Oh I am the tease? Excuse me, you tease me day in and day out." Alpha Kai said.
"Cause it's my job." I said.
He snorted.
"Like hell it is." Alpha Kai said.

"Why aren't I healing properly?" I asked.
Alpha Kai shrugged.
"I don't know. Doc is doing tests. When you were out, he took some of your blood. He wants to see if they put anything on Baxter's claws that could've poisoned you. Wolfsbane and silver, as you know, are highly toxic to or bodies. Both the human and werewolf body. In high doses it could instantly kill you. It could stop you from breathing. It could shut down your nerve system. It'll be a quick painless death." Alpha Kai said.
Doesn't sound pleasant.

"Or, it could kill you slowly and painfully. In small doses, it will make you feel as if you're internally on fire. It could make you drown in your own blood. It could suffocate you from the inside. It'll make you feel the poison running through your veins." Alpha Kai said.
"Drown in your own blood?" I asked.
"It could fill your lungs up with your own blood, thus drowning you. It's a very painful way to die. We lost some pack members a couple years back." Alpha Kai said.
"Wolfsbane caused them to drown in their our blood. I heard." I said.
"Yeah. It wasn't pleasant hearing their screams." Alpha Kai said.
"No. It made the whole pack miserable. It hurt everyone." I said.
"Yeah it did." Alpha Kai said.

Doc walked in.
"Oh you're awake. Splendid." Doc said.
"Don't sound so excited." I said.
"Oh hush, young one." Doc said.
I snorted.
"I'm not that young." I said.
"Are you almost mid 50s?" Doc asked.
"God no." I said.
"Then don't bitch." Doc said.
"Alright you two. What's the verdict, Doc?" Alpha Kai asked.
"Wolfsbane." Doc said.
"How bad?" Alpha Kai asked.
"Slow. Painful." Doc said.
"I don't feel any pain." I said.

"Yet." Doc said.

That sentence was enough out fear in all of us. I don't want to die. That isn't an option for me.
"Can you prevent it?" I asked.
"I could try. Problem is, it could cause more internal damage to you." Doc said.
"I'm not dying. Not now." I said.
Alpha Kai and Doc looked at me.
"Alright. I'll try to figure out what damage it has already done. And where it could be headed next." Doc said.
"Alright." I said.
Alpha Kai remained silent throughout this. I think knowing I could die, is taking its toll on him. I'm hoping I can make it through this.
