"Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" Marinette recited as she stood on her balcony in the growing moonlight. She was cast as the understudy for Juliet in the product of Romeo & Juliet that her school was putting on. Chloe, of course, was the female lead, Juliet, and Adrien was the male lead of Romeo. Nobody was surprised at their roles but Chloe seemed surprised and a little angry that Marinette was her understudy.
It wasn't even her idea to do the school play, Alya had signed her up for it and Marinette didn't think she would get a part but was surprised when she did. It meant she was good but not good enough to be the main? She wasn't sure but decided to not think too much of it.
The balcony was the best place to practice this scene as it was the actual setting of the scene. The sight of the Eiffel Tower in the distance, the smell of baked goods rising up and the sound of the wind rustling the trees lighting just emphasized the romantic mood in the play so much that she ached to have someone to perform the scene with.
"Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I'll no longer be a Capulet." she continued the lines, pouring more and more emotion into each line, falling into the role of Juliet by each word. She put herself into the role she lost connection with the real world, the things she heard were the lines of Shakespearean English she managed to be speaking. "Romeo, doff thy name, And for that name, which is no part of thee Take all myself," she said before stopping, as this would be where Romeo would make himself known.
"I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized. Henceforth I never will be Romeo." Chat Noir said from behind her.
Marinette screamed and almost fell off the railing.
Chat quickly grabbed Marinette's shoulders so she wouldn't fall, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you!"
Marinette turned around and rested her head on his chest, which was rising and falling quickly. "I'm sorry about that, I just didn't hear you approach."
Chat shook his head, "You have nothing to apologize for, I'm the one who scared you. You reacted in a normal way."
Marinette raised an eyebrow, "A normal way? So you've done this before?" She rolled her eyes before continuing, "I'm just joking with you, but how long have you been here?"
He shrugged, "Just a little bit, I didn't hear much just enough to recognize where you were in Romeo & Juliet."
She smiled, "You know the play that well? That's amazing. We're doing it as a performance at school and I got cast as Jul-"
"-iet's understudy." Chat finished for her before realizing what he did.
"How did you?" she began to say before he cut her off again.
"Oh look someone's calling my name, I have to go now bye, have fun." Chat said before extending his Baton and swinging himself into the distance.
