Temporary Control

I see that you're presenting
Let me intervene and take control of your legs and what you say
You're talking to someone new?
I'm going to make it hard for you
When I'm around, your insides turn inside out
Your voice will be cut short like you got kicked in the chest
The breath you were about to take is on its lunch break
Your throat will dry up like a raisin baking in the sun
Try again, hun
Just kidding, if you do I'll come back and attack every word you say
With stuttering, muttering, and "whoops, that was a mistake"
I don't usually strike when you're alone, perhaps when you're on the phone
I do have a friend that can help, he'll make you feel as small as an elf
You'll hyperventilate and cry for thirty minutes straight
Questioning what's real and what's fake
All it'll take is a bit of nervousness
I wonder how long it'll take for you to sever the tie between you and I
In you is where I reside, I rely on you speaking and saying hi to someone passing by
Maybe someday you'll get rid of me
But for now, I have temporary control and I always know when you're hiding
I am anxiety
