Chris still felt awful when he woke up the next morning. He was up stiff as a board and his head was still pounding. And he hated that he was holding onto all his tension from yesterday, but he still couldn't wrap his head around everything that had happened. And he wasn't looking forward to dealing with the pompous bastard later tonight.

Chris soon realized that Billie wasn't lying next to him, and once he crawled out of bed, he saw that she was sitting on the balcony wrapped up in her bathrobe and was quietly reading a book. He then threw on a pair of jeans and stood by the window and watched her looking so content in her own little world. He always loved the faces she made whenever she was truly engrossed by a story. Whether it was her wrinkling her nose or biting her bottom lip timidly, it was always such a turn-on to him.

"It's about time you got your ass out of bed." She said with her face still glued into her narrative.

"How long was I out?" Chris then stretched and took seat next to her.

Billie told him it was a little after 9:30am, and she wondered if he was feeling okay because he tossed and turned most of the night. Chris still couldn't bring himself to be completely honest, and said that he must had a nightmare. Billie knew that he was lying, and she looked to him with concern.

"Evans, what's really going on?" She asked cautiously. She saw that his eyes were holding so much grief that it scared her. "Seriously just tell me the truth."

Chris knew that he needed to come clean but he didn't want to start their day off on the wrong foot. So instead he suggested they grab breakfast and he promised to confess afterwards. He then gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and they both quickly got dressed and made their way to the café around the corner. Billie noticed that he barely touched his poached eggs and English muffin.

"Is it that time of the month?" she teased, but she was concerned when he didn't even crack a smile. "Oh come on! I was kidding."

Chris replied, "That's really cute." He then took a bite of his food and said, "You know we don't have to go to that party tonight if you don't want to."

Billie was a bit surprised that he wanted to blow off the event, and she actually considered it for a split second. But she knew how much tickets were and she felt it would be a waste of money if they didn't show up for at least one drink. But she also knew how boring those functions could be, and so she made a deal with Chris that they would show up early for cocktails and then leave right before the main course was served.

"But it's not like you to shy away from a good party. I mean these people are a little snobby, but I think you'll be fine. I mean you handled my dad pretty well..."

"I wouldn't go that far." Chris mumbled while taking a sip of coffee.

"So are you gonna finally tell me what happened after brunch?"
