Harry stood in front of his bed for a long moment contemplating what to do with Lumen. He could leave the sleeping basilisk in his bed with several charms and risk someone finding them or he could take the young basilisk with him on his late-night adventure and risk not only being caught after curfew but with an XXXXX classified creature sleeping soundly in his pocket.

Harry decided that the latter would only lead to problems and happily created an almost nest out of blankets and quickly cast a basic warming charm on them as well. With a sigh, he laid Lumen in the nest and watched as they happily snuggled into the green warm covers. Harry could only hope that Lumen stayed asleep and that the other Slytherins stayed out of his bed.

Now that, that problem was taken care of that left him with another issue. The Slytherin common room was often full even as the moon climbed higher into the sky and midnight slowly neared. Gryffindor's were known to stay up late as well. (Usually working on assignments due the next day) But it was much easier to sneak past a couple of dreary Gryffindor's instead of trying to sneak past several sharp-eyed Slytherins.

At least he didn't have a nosy portrait to worry about...unless you count the portrait of Salazar Slytherin of course. Harry never knew a painting could be such a, for lack of a better word stalker.

Harry quickly rummaged through his trunk and pulled out his treasured invisibility cloak, taking a moment to savor the feeling of magical silk between his fingers. He then pulled out the marauder's map. He held the old rolled up parchment in one hand and the invisibility cloak in his other. He quickly covered himself in the cloak and crept towards the door.

The common room was mostly quiet except for the loud crackling of a fire in the fireplace. Long shadows crept across the room like sentient creatures their dark talons clawing desperately at the light. Green beams of light cascaded through the chilled air and filled the darkest reaches of the room with an ominous green glow that clashed terribly with the warm orange light the fire gave off.

Malfoy and Blaise sat in the far corner playing a game of wizard's chess, Pansy Parkinson sat on the couch doing what appeared to be a potions essay they had been assigned over summer. Every few moments she'd pause to flick a lock of black short hair from her face only to have it fall back down moments later. A few other Slytherins sat around the common room doing their own things. Harry couldn't help but feel he was trespassing into something only the Slytherins shared.

"Gah! Draco this doesn't even make any sense. I mean we're supposed to write twenty uses for dragon scales in potions but I can only find a total of 13 and that's in three different books!" Pansy whined as she glared at her parchment with pure loathing.

"Make something up Pansy...it's only one essay." Blaise sighed

"Only one essay that could be the difference between an O and an E" Pansy sniffed as she hastily scribbled down something. Harry watched the scene for a moment longer before he crept out of the hole in the wall.

The halls were silent and desolate. Shadows danced in the torch light and a chill crept up Harry's spine as he walked through the dungeons. He peered down at the marauder's map and watched as names moved around. He watched as filch chased his cat towards peeves who was definitely up to something messy. Harry walked through the deserted halls aimlessly, glancing down at the map every once and a while to make sure he wouldn't run into any teachers on his late night walk.
