Harry was hardly in a better mood the following morning. He clamored out of his green bed and dressed for a day he was very much so not looking forward to. Today classes would start, adding homework to his ever-growing to-do list.
The gloomy atmosphere of the dungeon only furthered his irritation and made him miss Gryffindor Tower all the more. Back where the floors were simply chilly instead of a biting cold. Where the morning sun could easily peak in through the large picture windows filling the rooms with sunshine and warmth, instead of having the warm rays filtered through the murky waters of a lake tainting them an eerie green. Back where he truly felt at home, instead of feeling like an alien encroaching on a highly hostile civilization.
"What'd that wall do to you?" Lumens adenoidal voice jolted him from his redolent musings.
"What?" Harry asked blinking slowly as he realized he'd finished buttoning his shirt a long while ago.
"You've been scowling at that wall for ages." Lumen clarified as they carefully slithered out from under the thick blankets before being scooped up by a still scowling Harry.
"I was just thinking," Harry replied, sighing tiredly as he haphazardly tied his green and silver tie and finished getting dressed.
"Mhm, just thinking." Lumen hissed skeptically but refrained from pushing the subject. And settled to simply lounge about in silence instead of causing the usual ruckus Harry had come to expect from them. But Harry wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. So, he merely continued on and out into the common room.
"Someone's up early." The voice was like nails on a chalkboard to Harry. Salazar Slytherin stood regally in his painting above the aged fireplace. His lips pulled into a smirk, his eyes gleaming dastardly.
"Regretfully," Harry said, his eyes scanning the empty common room with distaste.
"So, you're not a morning person then," Salazar said amusedly.
"Actually, he's not usually like this... He's just been thinking." Lumen clarified, their scaled head peeking out of Harry's sleeve.
"Is it about the twins? It's their own fault for hatching a random egg." Salazar said in what Harry figured was supposed to be reassuring.
"No, but now I'm worried about that as well now, thanks," Harry said sending a glare towards the portrait which wasn't fazed in the slightest.
"You're welcome," Salazar said with far too much chipper.
"Do you take time out of your day to personally annoy all the Slytherin students?" Harry huffed, he could barely handle this portraits antics on a good day.
"No, only you," Salazar said, a grin that could only be described as errant stretching across his face.
"Oooh, You're special!" Lumen crowed, seemingly back to their usual mildly demented self.
