"How was your partner?" Martha asked.
"Well, fine. Elly is fine." I joked.
Tris sighed. "Come on. He wasn't your date. My date—correction: dates—are fine. But I still want a single date." She frowned. Some of us had two partners instead of one so that everyone could be filled up.
"Don't you like that? Buy one, take one." Martha laughed.
"I have two too." Rhonna said. The words two too made me laugh. "Though I forgot their names."
"I have one only." I said. "Ugh, I still want it to be Elly."
"Don't worry, I think he will dance with you."
I hoped. I wished. I prayed.
Just to have a dance with him.
Yep, I thought I was desperate enough.
I was afraid he wouldn't spend a single moment with me.
