Daft Punk: robots after all

Chapter 7: I want to be Alone

Thomas wakes up first. When he looks around him, the day is already been up for a long time. There is not much left of the pile of wood that was used to for the camp fire, except some ashes scattered by the wind. He turns his head to Sophie, who is still sleeping peacefully beside him. He looks her sleep and gently stroked her cheek with his hand, not to wake her. Then, as he looks at the sky, he feels Sophie's hand that touches his own. The young woman slowly opened his eyes and smiled. She rises slowly and gives him a short and love kiss to Thomas, for say him good morning.

(Thomas): "Good morning Sophie. Did you sleep well? I did not wake you at least?"

(Sophie): "No, I slept very well. I felt your hand on my cheek. It was nice, cold, metal....."

(Thomas): "We should go back to the spaceship. Guy-Manuel will wonder where we are."

The young woman agrees. Side by side, they resume their walk in the sand dunes to return to the spacecraft. When they arrive, the door of the spaceship opens and Guy-Manuel goes out to see his two friends. It does not seem worried about their long absence, on the contrary, he seems happy for them. He does not hesitate to tease them nicely.

(Guy-Manuel): "So, the lovers, sleep well?"

(Sophie): "Yes, thank you. Sorry if we have leaved you alone."

(Guy-Manuel): "It does not matter the contrary, I am glad that you enjoy being together. We must enjoy of the happy moments when times are tough. By cons, I received a message from our leader. He wants us to see him for a secret meeting now.”

(Sophie): "Your leader?"

(Thomas): "Yes, it is called D-Tron. It was him who sent us to earth to hide the brainwasher. He is the only of our people to know that we are here. He must surely expect us in the large red room."

Sophie is really intrigued by this. Who is D-Tron? What is this great secret red room? She will soon have the answers. Guy-Manuel puts a small sphere shaped object on the ground and walks away a few steps. The object shines during several seconds and opens a vortex that leads to another dimension. Daft Punk allows to Sophie to come with them to meet D-Tron. From the descriptions of the two robots, D-Tron is one of the brightest minds in the universe. It is also the inventor of brainwasher. After crossing a tunnel space during few minutes at the speed of light, the group arrives in a really strange place, which seems isolate of the rest of the universe. This is a huge empty room, and the walls are a sinister red. This place never seems to end. Sophie's a little anxious and prefers to stay with her friends. They arrive at a red pedestal and on the top, a little strange cybernetic creature. It measures 30 cm high, has no legs and looks like a small metal skeleton with red eyes.  Daft Punk respectfully greets their leader, and Sophie did the same, just in case. The little robot starts talking, with an acute and robotic voice.

(D-Tron): "Welcome my friends. I look forward to see you again. And I see that you did not come alone. What's your name young girl?"

(Sophie): "Sophie Dunams. I'm a friend of Daft Punk."

(Thomas): "You can trust her, master, she help us against this gang that wants to take our precious technology."

(D-Tron):"If I ask you to come here, it is to warn you that our people are becoming more active and determined to find the brainwasher. The only way to stop that, this would be to destroy it."

(Sophie): "Well, why do not do?"

(D-Tron): "It is not as simple. Besides having with great power, it also has an indestructible metal shell. I still look for a way to make a powerful enough weapon to destroy it. Meanwhile my friends, hide it as long as you can. This object do should certainly not fall into their hands. I really regret to have created this object."

(Guy-Manuel): "Master, it is not your fault you could not predict what would happen."

(Sophie): "He is right. You've think good for your people, but the thirst for power was greater for them. We will do everything to protect your invention, and prevent war between our two worlds, I promise you.”

(D-Tron): "Now, I know why my friends trust you. Sophie, you're a brave girl and you have a pure heart. In 10,000 years of existence, I have never met anyone more good and determined as you. I wish you good luck. Goodbye, my children. "

With these words, the vortex opens again and the group gets inside, while in saying goodbye to D-Tron, which still alone in its red dimension, to reflect on how to destroy the brainwasher. The group returns to the desert near their spaceship. Sophie is very sorry for D-Tron. It feels really responsible for what happens. His invention attracts the desires of everyone, and he can not destroy it, for now. The brainwasher is always safe in the trunk of the spaceship.

Another day ends and the night falls quickly in the vast desert. But this time, Thomas and Sophie decide to stay with Guy-Manuel. All three are gathered close to a camp fire under the starry sky. Sophie puts a blanket to keep out the cold. She sits beside Thomas, and lays her head on his shoulder. He puts his arm around her waist, to warm her. Guy-Manuel is sitting in front of them and plays a sweet melody with a guitar. Then he begins to sing soft and sad lyrics.

(Guy-Manuel):"I want to be alone

I need to touch each stone

Face the grave that I have grown

I want to be

Alone

Before all the days are gone

And darker walls are bent and torn

To pass the time of those who mourn

I want to be

Alone...."

Sophie and Thomas listen to their friend sing. The young woman is fascinated by the calm way he sings, without worrying about anything else. Then she began to sing in her turn, always in the music of Guy-Manuel. Both robots listen to the young woman who begins to sing softly while watching the flames. They are fascinated by her beautiful voice. The flames slowly dance with the wind, as to accompany the song.

(Sophie):"Rivers that run anywhere

Are in my hand and just up the stair

Past the eyes of those who care

Who can never be

Alone

Changes that were not meant to be

Tow the hours of my memory
