I slowly came to, back in my darkened cell. Pushing my coppery auburn hair out of my face I tried to sit up, but slumped over in pain. My whole body felt like it was on fire. I finally managed to get into a sitting position with my muscles protesting in the process. I heard a slight grating sound and soon light started to fill the room and a strange man entered or was it two men? I could tell that my eyes were slightly out of focus, and I blinked rapidly trying to clear them. “Oh so your still alive” came the voice from one of the two guys, or was it one?

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means most people would be dead by now, but I guess I should’ve expected a top agent like you to still be alive.”

“But I’ve already told you countless times, I’m not who you think I am.”

“Listen girly, just tell us what we want to know, and then you might possibly live. Oh who am I kidding, of course we’ll kill you; we’ll just do it faster.” And with that, the guy or guys turned on his heel and walked out of the room and closed the door, succumbing the room to darkness once more.

I rolled over in my bed and looked at the clock, 6:30 it read. I groaned internally as I got out of bed and stripped out of my boy shorts and cami, I headed towards my bathroom and stepped into my shower. Shampooing my hair my mind wandered back to yesterday, when Ezra walked into his house and started stripping his clothes off unaware that I was right in front of him. It was kind of shocking to find out he actually had abs, he didn’t seem like that kind of guy to me. I mean yes, I know he was skinny, but I just never thought that he would work out. I guess people surprise you every day.

I had no homework and no mission. I literally had nothing to do. I can’t believe I just thought that, I’m always doing something. It’s weird to be doing nothing.  Hmm, rock climbing sounded like a fun idea. I made my way to my old Volkswagen and drove over to the agency. Parking in my usual spot I made my way inside and headed towards the rec room at the far end of the building.

As I walked into the room, I made my way over to the far side of the room where the climbing chalk was kept. I put a little too much on, and ended up dusting the rest off on my pink shorts.  I placed my hand on the closet rock handle and pushed my body up while placing my left foot on a rock that was level with my hip. I was now in an awkward position, one that I quickly solved by grabbing a rock that was a little past my reach and propelling my legs over to the right on the rocks below.

“Shouldn’t you be wearing a harness?” came a familiar voice. I turned my head so fast to look at Ezra that a sharp pain shot up through my neck. Squeezing my eyes shut, I waited for the pain to pass before I opened my eyes and found myself staring directly into Ezra’s green ones. “You ok?” he asked.

“I’m fine, and no, I don’t need a harness, I’ve always done rock climbing free style.”

“One day you’ll fall and hurt yourself. But don’t worry I’ll catch you with my bulging muscular arms.”

“Puh-lease, like you actually have muscles to make you attractive.” I laughed back.

“What, you don’t find me attractive?” he asked puzzled.

“You’re just not my type.” I laughed as I started climbing back up the wall.

“Well, what is your type?”

“Tall, with dark hair like yours, but I prefer bluish grey eyes instead of your green.”

“I don’t see the problem them. We’d be a perfect match!”

“How so?”

“Well, if we ever had kids they’d have my dark hair and your bluish grey eyes.” After that remark I leaned over and slapped Ezra full force on his left cheek, the one I already hit yesterday. As I was slapping Ezra, I lost my grip and started plunging down to the floor. Lucky for me, Ezra managed to grab my hand in time. “See, I told you, you should’ve worn a harness. Lucky for you, I was here to save the day.”

“Thanks a lot Romeo I muttered.” As he started laughing by my response.

I got off of the climbing wall and made my way over to one of the treadmills and started what was going to be a five mile jog. I took out my Pink N8 phone and plugged my ear buds in. Scorpion’s ‘rock you like a hurricane’ came on and I started running. About a mile and a half into my run, my ear buds were yanked off my ear, and I turned to face my Superior. “I was listening to that!”

“Ya, I don’t really care. I don’t pay you to listen to music, I pay you to catch criminals, which is what I want you to do right now.”

“Ok fine, what do you want?”

“Come with me.” I followed my Superior out of the rec room and into his office. “I need you to go to Sacramento and get someone for me, but if it’s not possible and the guy seems like he’s going to escape, then I give you permission to kill him. I could feel my face pale.

“I’ve never been allowed to kill on a mission. How bad is he?”

“Oh, you’ll find out when you there.”  He said in a tone that sounded like he was kidding but I know he wasn’t, my boss never jokes around. Ever.
