+Hunter's POV+

"I'd like to tell you now."

I felt my heart rate pick up.

She was so insistent on telling me whatever it was when I got home that I had spent my whole flight back just thinking of the possibilities.

"While you were away, I was thinking about things... Between us." She paused, waiting to see my reaction.

She hadn't lost her smile.

That damn smile; if I could see that smile every moment of my life, I think that I'd die a happy man.

"Mhm," I murmured again.

She twisted her fingers as she spoke, "I think I love you." She quickly shook her head, "Wait no, I don't 'think'; I know, I feel, I do, I love you."

I didn't think that my heart could contain the joy I felt hearing those three words escape from her lips.

If I did anything right in my life, it was to let her in.

"You know, my dad always said to me that he loved me to the moon and back. I never really understood what he meant until recently," Payton said thoughtfully. "The heart creates enough energy to drive a truck twenty miles and in a lifetime, that's equal to driving to the moon and back. So fundamentally, by saying that you love someone to the moon and back, you're saying that you love them with all the blood that your heart pumps in your entire life."

I snickered. "Is this how you're professing your love to me? With a science lesson?"

Her face turned a shade of pink and she playfully glared at me. "What I'm trying to get at Hunter, is that I love you to the moon and back."

I got up from my seat and rushed over to her. She let out a small squeal as I picked her up from her seat and held her above my head.

"Hunter what are you doing?"

"Say it again," I said excitedly.

"Say what?"

"You know what."

"I love you to the moon and back, Hunter," she said, her eyes growing glossy from tears.

I felt my own eyes do the same, "I love you too cucumber."

Damn, I hated being able to feel again; to have emotions. It made me vulnerable.

You should have thought of that before you started this thing with Payton, dumbass.

I made an exception for her.

And was it worth it?

Definitely.

Looking at her eyes, back down to her lips. "Can I- can I kiss you?"

She smiled, biting her lip and nodded.
