I woke up, feeling more tired than I had when I went to sleep. When I stood up, I realized how cold I was. My blanket had fallen off in the middle of the night and it was a chilly morning.
I shook Caleb to wake him up, and his eyes shot open. "Ready to go to school?" I asked him.
"Yeah...." he replied, and I could tell that he was just as tired as I was. He finally got up and we packed our things. Once we were ready, we began to walk to school.
The school was in the middle of town and was very big. It had four main sections and each one of those sections was as big as my old school. Caleb shot me a smile and I smiled right back. I was really enjoying spending time with him and having a little adventure together.
We opened the main doors of the school and walked into a full hallway. Most students were moving quickly to get to their first class, but some just took their time and enjoyed their last few minutes of freedom.
I followed Caleb and we began to walk down the packed hallway. I lost count of how many times I was shoved and pushed by impatient students. Most people who were along the walls and lockers were in groups and talking loudly to each other. One group of boys were staring at me and I was pretty sure one of them was making fun of me.
The one that I was sure had just called me some mean things was pointing at me and laughing. I guess Caleb had seen this too, and he walked straight up to the mean boy. "Is something wrong?" Caleb asked the boy in a low, scary voice.
"Nothing is wrong here," the boy said with on odd grin on his face. He looked at me and then at his friends and laughed again. This made Caleb even more mad. He pinned the boy against the locker and held him there. I could tell that he was trying to let it go. Caleb loooked at me, and his eyes began to show even more anger.
He turned back to the boy and punched him right in the face. By now, a huge croud had formed around us and people began to whisper. 'Who is that kid?' 'Is he new?' 'Did he really just punch Sam?'
Caleb let the boy go, and just walked away. I quickly followed behind him all the way to a bench outside. "Are you okay?" I asked him.
"Yeah," he said, "I just can't take that. Did you hear what that kid just said?"
I was shocked. I couldn't believe that Caleb just punched some random person for laughing at me. "Yes, I heard him. But it isn't that big of a deal," I told him, "But thank you so much for doing that for me."
"No problem," he said and then smiled.
Just as he had said that, a woman in a business suit came outside to the bench we were at and told us to report to the principal's office immediately. We did what we were told and followed her to the third building.
Caleb and I walked into the door labeled "Principal Perry." Mr. Perry was seated behind his desk and told us to sit down in the two chairs in front of his desk. "What are you doing in my school?" he asked us.
"What do you mean?" Caleb shot back.
Principal Perry gave him a look and said, "Neither of you attend this school, but you showed up here today and one of you punched one of my students in the face."
I could tell that Caleb was holding back a grin. He really was proud of himself.
"I'm sorry, sir. We will be leaving." I told the principal.
He looked at me and then said, "I can't just let you go! You punched my student! I don't even know who you are!"
"We were just visiting the school to see if we wanted to go to this school next semester, when some random boy was laughing at me," I explained, "Caleb got very mad at the kid for making fun of me, so he defended me. Now if you will excuse us, we have some travelling to do."
Caleb looked shocked. I stood up and walked out of the office. Caleb was right behind me.
When we were out of the school, Caleb burst into laughter. "Did you see his face?" he asked me, while continuing to laugh.
Watching him laugh made me want to laugh, so I burst out laughing too. We stood there for about five minutes just laughing as hard as we could. This day at school was definately worth the trouble it got us in.
