Not Looking Back

Chapter 5

We left the school laughing as hard as we could. That was the most fun I had, had in a really long time.

Caleb had already told me that he knew of a little town, where he had once lived, that wasn't very far away from the town we were in. I was ready to move on. We still needed a place to stay.

As we were walking down the street, we saw an old, abandoned school bus. It was in the middle of nowhere, and we figured that it was fine to stay one night in it.

Caleb worked for a while, trying to get the main door of the bus open. Finally, the door slide open and we could get inside.

I stepped on the bus first and realized that this might not be the first time someone has slept in this bus. The seats had been broken and spread out, I'm assuming for people to sleep on. There were a few blankets on the seats, but most of them had holes. I looked around and found an old, black bag laying in the back corner of the bus. It had already been opened and I walked over to check it out.

In the bag, there were some bandages, and other medical supplies. There was some old food in the bottom of the bag, but most of it was very old and had gone bad. The things that interested me the most were the clothes in the bag. There were several T-shirts and two pairs of jeans. I was shocked because the shirts were all my size, and so were the pants. That was the moment that I realized that I hadn't taken any extra clothes.

"All of these clothes fit me," I told Caleb, "Should I take them?"

"Yeah," he said, "I would. Did you bring any extra clothes with you?"

I shook my head and he laughed. "I didn't think a lot of things through before I left. I was so mad that I just told myself that I was leaving, and then I left." I explained.

I took the clothes and stuffed them in my bag. I didn't think to bring food or clothes, what now? I inspected all of the blankets and found two that were still in pretty good shape. I gave the nicest one to Caleb and used the other one to myself.

"Thanks," he said.

"Yupp," I replied. I settled down on one of the seats and covered myself with the blanket. The bus started to get cold, so I stood up and closed all of the windows. I laid back down and tucked myself in. Closing the windows didn't help at all. I began to shiver.

I guess Caleb realized that I was cold and came over to  help. He put his arms around me and I was instantly a little warmer. We laid there for a while and I finally fell asleep with a smile on my face.
