Just to clear some things up, Nia is no longer an ALDC member. 😭 Sad, I know. But we can get through it without the Zeegs and the Fraze!

I really do not like tap. It is super boring. Like, all you do is tap your feet on the ground. There aren't any tricks. It is just simple, plain, and boring.

I like my solo, but I feel like it is too rushed. I feel like it has too many poses. I feel like a seven year old when I do it. I feel... under-graded. I feel like I can't do it.

So last night, I changed my solo around. I'm not doing tap in the open category, I'm doing jazz and funk in the open category. If Abby is sitting in the audience, I'll have to wing it.

I really feel like I can't do a tap solo.

When we arrived at the competition after what seemed like a forever-long bus ride, my stomach started to churn. What if this plan isn't going to go down well? How will Abby handle my jazz solo? All I know is that I have to tap if she is out in that audience.

"Chloe, what if I mess up?" I asked her. She shook her head. Did that mean she believed me? I think I can. I am the little engine that could. I can pull off this plan. And then if I have to tap, I'll pretend that I forgot and hit some poses then tap. Perfect.

I walked to the dressing room so I could put on my earrings. They were pink rhinestones with white studs around it. My mom dabbed some lipstick on my lips and glued a diamond along my eye.

"Tada!" Someone exclaimed. All the moms went, "Cute!" or "Aww!" It was Paige and Chloe, rocking their outfits. I looked over at Abby, but she was talking to Maddie. Then, she pulled her into a hug. Where was my talk and hug? Nowhere. I was disappointed.

After that, Maddie and I walked hand-in-hand out the door.

When we got to the stage, Maddie ckecked in with the stage manager. "Madison..." he mumbled. "You are up. Good luck."

She nodded at the gentleman's words and walked to the corner of the stage.
Quickly, I gave him my dance name. "You have a while. Feel free to run your dance away from the wings, or watch it on these TVs."

I nodded and walked over to the TV. There were some chairs. Only one person was sitting down, so I sat next to her. She smiled at me and looked back at the screen.

"Up next, we have entry 452 in the junior contemporary solo category, this is Maddie performing, 'No Hearts.'''

The audience roared with applause. I clapped. "You've got this Madison," I whispered to myself. She walked onstage gracefully.

"Wow," the girl sighed. "She looks gorgeous." She turned to me. "I'm Casey. I'm performing, 'Just Wanna Dance.'"

"Nice! My name is Kendall, and I am performing River Deep. Good luck."

She smiled. "Thanks, you too."

I nodded to show my appreciation and turned back to the monitor. The music started. She did everything okay. Then, her legs started to get wobbly and her knees shook. It was at the thirty second mark, when BAM, she went blank.

Maddie stood on stage like a deer in headlights. I could see Abby throw her hands up in the air. Maddie smiled. Her positive energy on stage made us all smile. It was glad to know that she was proud of what had happened of her performance so far. But, she couldn't stay on stage forever... Right?

That was when she did the only thing I didn't think of. Run off.

I stood up immediately and chased after her. "Maddie, stop! What do you think you're doing?"
