"Take care, brat..."

Sure enough, Kiari followed her partner into the Riversphere not too long after. The fairy was always partial to letting her rage get the better of her since it fueled her shadow powers, but this time, she let it consume her body in a way she had never done before. Combined with the tremendous sorrow she felt for being at the end of her life and for losing Tsukiko, the result was a grand explosion of darkness that decimated both Kiari and Kei instantly, without another word to spend their breaths on. In the end, the Tale Caster was finished by his foe's Tale, and his dark Tale was terminated by a Tale Caster... leaving only Zetsu and his immense sadness. In time, his wounds would heal, but the ultimate sacrifice made by his mother's love would live in the young man forever.

Time does not exist in the pillar of worlds as perceived by mortals. The soul pieces that travel through it, devoid of a real consciousness, are assembled into a full spirit and pulled out of the Riversphere when a mortal body is born for them to inhabit. The point in time the body comes to life is irrelevant, for it is not a good enough concept that can be applied to the grand collective that is the multiverse.

However, if it was to be measured from a mortal's perspective, the time that passed between Tsukiko's death and her reincarnation into a new being was not short. When it was the spirit's turn to finally leave the great stream of life and start over, it was mostly a completely new soul, with different parts than before, although it did keep the meaningful experiences from its past life within its ethereal confines.

They were just the first step towards creating an identity for the important spirit.

A world where the law belonged to a society of strict, proper beings called the Grey. To the young woman, belonging to that tribe felt like the right thing. Following those laws meant working towards a perfect community, made of perfect people, which made sense to her. What could be better than a world where everyone was on the same wavelength, where everyone found happiness together in the same things? The answer to that was, of course, nothing. Therefore, the girl made sure to abide by those orderly rules on a daily basis in her job as an investigator for the Grey, with the greater goal always in mind.

There was this other group of people, though... They called themselves the Colorful. As their name indicated, they irradiated color, which spread all around them, impregnating itself on everything it touched. To the Grey, it was a terrifying disease. Sure, it could be cured, but being caught by color was a horrific experience. It always changed, not caring about any restrictions or preconceptions.

Tsukiko loathed color. It was an aberration to everything she had ever stood for in her life, and vowed to see the end of its propagation through the dominion of the Grey so that no one else would be foolish enough to challenge the order they so loved to defend. That was why, when Sypha Aerin's existence was discovered, Tsu was the first one to sign up to find her. The subject had been described as the person with the strongest colorful potential ever recorded; the only thing that could stop the spread of her color was her own unstable emotions. Literally nothing the Grey put in her way could dim Aerin's power. It was truly terrifying, but the young investigator felt the need to step up to the challenge. By following the rules and norms she cherished so much, she would put this insurgent down.

At least, that was what she told herself at first. The white-haired woman's friends commended and applauded her for her bravery, and that kept her going for a while, along with her strong sense of duty. However, the more time passed without catching the subject, it began to turn more and more into what felt like the right thing to do. Sure, maybe it didn't sound so different, but it made all the difference to Tsukiko. It took her a while to realize, but it had become personal. Maintaining the order of the Grey's regime was secondary to the intense desire to do the right thing for herself. She couldn't explain it, nor did she try to. Not asking for help or council was very unlike Tsu, but she just pressed on, accompanied by this strange, foreign feeling.
