Your heart seems to be pounding in your ears as you dash across the road, narrowly avoiding the coming cars. This felt like the race for your life, and it kind of was.
"Come back here you weirdo!!" Henry Bowers yells, his little gang running with him.
You ignore him and jump over a bench, not having enough time to dodge it. The adults look at you with concern in their eyes as a group of boys chase after you. Dodging people and cars almost make you forget the bully running after you, but the consistent yelling keeps it in your head.
"What did ya do today?" Eddie asks as he spots you running.
"Ask them," you pant out, mock saluting the boy before running into the trees, hopping to shake them off. Once you were out of their sight, you climb a tree as fast as your little limbs could carry you. One small branch at a time.
You did not think you were going to make it but surprisingly you did. The boys were to blind with rage to see a small black shoe hanging out of a tree. Leaning against the trunk of the tree you let out a sigh of relief, taking the bandana off of your head to wipe it on your forehead.
"Well, well, if you lookee here it seems as if I got a catch," a voice floats up from the bottom of the tree.
"Fuck off Richie," you pant, not even looking down to make sure it was him.
"Now, now miss y/n, I don't think that's a polite way to treat a gentleman,"
"It isn't, that's why I said it to you," you smirk, finally looking down.
Richie fake gasps and puts a hand over his heart, "I'm gonna have to punish you for that honey bunch."
Rolling your eyes, you easily climb down the tree, your sweat-filled bandana keeping the hair out of your face, "Like you could do anything to me."
"Man, did you jump into the sewers or something because you're drenched!!" Richie says, his accent dropping as he examines you, "How far did you run?"
"Around the whole town or something, they spotted me at the candy store, and I didn't even get to finish my candy," you exclaim, crossing your arms.
"Well then," Richie says with a childish smirk, "Why don't you let me buy you some candy?"
"I'm so tired that I don't even care. Just give me food," you agree.
The boy smiles widely, "I knew you'd agree someday!"
