Chapter Fifteen
"I'm going to miss you," I whisper as I take my last admiration of the now empty flat which echoes at every step. The copper key, old and warn jiggles in my hand. It's strange seeing the flat empty again, it still feels like home though. Nothing could change that. Sighing, I step back, now ready to leave. As I turn, I smile at Jackie who is stood in the doorway.
"Ready?" She asks with an excited grin on her face, I nod before placing the key onto the kitchen counter and going to the door. I look back once more, it's weird knowing that this will be the last time I'll see this flat. It'll no longer be my home but someone elses. When I'm done having my look back movie moment, I jog down the many flights of stairs along with Jackie and we get into the car which is packed with boxes. We've been moving stuff out all day, Joe's flat is a cluttered mess with all my boxes sprawled out everywhere, although I'm thankful that my furniture isn't there too. I put all of that into a storage unit, I'm not quite sure with what I want to do with it however. I almost don't want to sell it, especially my sofa! That thing has been there for me more than anything, during my breakdowns and my highest points. It's basically family. The car journey is quick as Joe and I live about five to ten minutes from each other, so when we get there Jackie and I begin to transfer the last few boxes into his flat and soon we're done. Both exhausted and sitting on his sofa, our postures a mess and our legs spread out. A little while later, Joe gets back along with Caspar and they both smile at us.
"Hey." They say in unison, Joe kissing me and Caspar sitting beside me. "I got something for you." Joe smiles, rushing out into the hall and bringing in a massive cardboard box.
"What's that?" I giggle, getting up and examining it.
"I know how much you loved your office in your old flat and there isn't room here for one, so I bought you your own desk for our room." He grins, with a proud face.
"Joe!" I say, hugging him tightly. "Thank you so much." This is one of the reasons I love Joe so much, his small acts of kindness. I barely even thought about my office but he did, he thinks so deeply and not just about himself, about everyone around him. He has more compassion than anyone, I'm one of the luckiest people in the world to have met him. There are over seven billion people in the world and Joe isn't even 1% of that. Somehow, I met him though and I am eternally grateful.
