"Lady Jayne, it's time to wake up." Sebastian said as he pulled the curtains from the windows, causing light to flood into the room.
I let out a grumble of annoyance, I didn't want to get up today. I had tossed and turned all night and barely got any sleep. "Go away Sebastian," I just wanted him to leave so I could go back to sleep but, of course that wasn't going to happen. Sebastian ripped the sheets off of my bed causing the coldness of the room to attack me.
"Lady Jayne, did you forget you're going into town today with Lady Hiltch. You need to get up now so you can be ready when she comes."
Oh, thats right I almost forgot. My best friend Cora was coming to visit today and we were going to go into town to do a little shopping. It had been a while since I had last saw her, we lost touch after my parents died. It was mostly my fault, she would come and visit me at Aunty's but, I would never talk to her. She eventually stopped coming, and once her father's company relocated and they moved away we stopped being friends all together. When I heard she was coming to town I had Sebastian contact her, She agreed to pick me up and take me to town with her. I flipped my legs over the side of the bed, my feet hitting the cold wooden floor. I wonder what Cora looks like now, it's been two and a half years since I had saw her last.
"Breakfast today is-," I cut Sebastian off. "I won't be having breakfast this morning Sebastian. I'll be eating with Cora," That was a lie, I just didn't feel well. The butterflies in my stomach were too much.
"Alright miss, i'll let you get ready. Please, call me if you need anything," and with that he left the room.
I walked over to my walk-in closet and pulled out my favorite dress. A long sleeve royal blue dress with a black corset over top. It also had black ruffles down the front and along the sleeves. I picked my black knee length boots and stockings to wear underneath. Once I was done dressing I sat down to brush my hair. Why do I have such long hair? It's only a hassle, maybe I should just cut it all off. I picked up the scissors in one hand and held a piece of my hair in my other. No, i'd wait until the summer when it gets hot. It would just be plain stupid to chop off my hair in the dead of winter.
I suppose I should tell Ciel that I wouldn't be at the meeting today. Rats were plaguing England lately and the Queens guard dog had been called in. Along with Sir Aurthor Randel of the Scottland Yard, and other nobles. Aunty Anne was there along with Ciel's acquaintance Lau and his 'sister' Ran-mau. I don't know what it was about them but something didn't sit right with me. Thank goodness I didn't have to go to that meeting, I know I had an obligation to the Queen but, sometimes those meetings got so boring. I walked down the hall to dad's office well, I guess it was Ciel's office now. Ciel was sitting at the big desk in the center of the room reading a document, probably something to do with Futom.
"Good morning Ciel,"
"Good morning Jay,"
"Cora's coming to take me shopping today, so I won't be at the meeting this afternoon. Will you be alright without me?" Ciel looked at me from over the paper for the first time since I walked into the room.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He raised an eyebrow.
"I don't know? You never know who could come and steal you, but who could blame them your just so dog gone cute." I grabbed his cheek and pinched it until it turned a slight shade of pink. He slapped my hand away.
"Enough! I'll be fine,"
I giggled at his frustrated expression, he was so cute when he got angry. Sebastian walked into the room at that moment. "Lady Jayne, Lady Coraline is here to accompany you to town." Yes, finally! I couldn't wait to see her after so long. I ran out of the room mumbling goodbyes and a small thank you to Sebastian. As soon as I reached the door I flung it open, the bright morning sunlight greeted me. I spotted a jet black carriage, a tall, lean man in a butler suit stood in front of it. He had pale blonde hair that glistened in the sun, his eyes frightened me though. They were red, bright red. I hesitantly walked toward the man.
"Good morning, miss Phantomhive." He smiled opening the door offering me his hand. His canines were pointed, like fangs almost. I said a quiet reply and hesitantly grabbed his ice cold hand in my own hoisting myself into the carriage and watched as the mysterious man closed the door. Seated on the right side was a young woman with long purple/brown hair and bright green eyes. Coraline Hiltch.
"Jay," Cora's honey-sweet voice reached my ears, it was the same as it was years ago.
"Cora," I looked her straight in the eyes. "i've missed you."
"I've missed you too, You've grown up." She smiled. At least she wasn't angry at me for the way I treated her. I laughed.
"Thanks, you have also I see." That wasn't a lie she had grown. Her face had become more angled and her chest had become larger. She had also grown in height. It was then that I noticed a girl, no younger than me, sitting next to Cora. She had brown hair with big brown eyes. She looked so innocent, so fragile. Like she could bust at any moment however, there was an edge to her. Something dangerous and unsettling yet she seemed vaguely familiar. It startled me. Cora noticed my staring and motioned to the girl.
"You do remember Carlie don't you?" Carlie? Wait that was what we called Caroline. Could it be? She looked so different, nothing like the little sickly girl who always had to stay inside and watch us play from the confines of her room. Little Caroline Hiltch, Cora's twin sister. She had grown, her hair had gotten a lot longer and had gotten a shine that wasn't there before. Her eyes so innocent, yet so deadly. Where had I seen those eyes before? Ciel's eyes. That's the same look he had when he came back home. My mind wondered to the first time I had seen those eyes.
I raced down to the room and stood in the doorway, Aunty was holding Ciels face. What happened to him? His eyes looked sad, or should I say eye, his right one was bandaged. He wasn't smiling which was odd. What happened to the happy-go-lucky baby brother I was use to? What had he been through while he was missing? What had they done too him? Standing at his side was a butler dressed all in black with horrible red eyes. I already didn't like him. I'd be lying if I said he wasn't attractive but, why was he here? Ciel's only been home for a day, how could he acquire a butler so quickly? There had to be more to him then what meets the eye.
Ciel finally noticed me standing there watching him. His eye held relief but, it was so cold and full of hatred but yet so innocent. Why?
"Ciel darling," I said smoothly, slowly walking into the room and kneeling before him, setting the box on the floor. I took his hands in mine and held them tightly. He looked so fragile, like he could break at any moment but, at the same time he looked hard as stone.
"Jay," he said quietly. That wasn't his voice, his voice was happy and innocent. This was reserved and controlled. Nothing like Ciel.
"How are you?"
He wouldn't answer. He just kept staring at me with that one sad eye. It broke my heart.
Yes, she had the same eye's as Ciel. Something that frightened me though was the mysterious butler. He had the same color eyes as Sebastian, last time I checked red wasn't a standard eye color.
"Caroline, how are you?" Her eye's were intently studding my face like I was a stranger. Well I guess I hadn't seen her in at least four years.
"I'm fine. How are you Jayne?" Her voice so cold, so sad.
"I'm wonderful, thank you for asking." I smiled at her but she just looked out the window. An awkward silence fell over us.
"I see you've gotten a new butler." I said trying to start a conversation.
"Oh yes, that's Henri Akatsuna. He's mostly Carlie's but, he takes care of everyone else too."
Carlie shot a look at me. Did I say something?
"I've heard the Phantomhive's have a new butler also,"
"Yes, his name is Sebastian Michaelis."
We fell into another silence, I sighed. This was going to be one awkward ride.
