A young woman presented herself to the man she recognized as her father, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. "You wished to see me?" She asked.
He nodded, "(F/N), you'll be going with Mitsunari tomorrow to subdue the Date."
The young woman didn't reply. Hideyoshi continued.
"As you know, we have to subdue the Hōjō by taking Odawara. Other clans have already agreed and replied to us on that matter except for the Date. Since you're familiar with the current head of the clan, maybe you could.."
"Ask him to agree to our terms?" (F/N) cut him off, crossing her arms. "I'm not even sure if he remembers me..." She frowned, looking down at the floor.
"Of course he'll remember you!" Hideyoshi exclaimed, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Even for me, you're a pretty unforgettable kid. If I won't be able to forget you, then he wouldn't be able to do so as well." He smiled.
(F/N) hesitantly nodded. There was an unsure look in her eyes. "I'll do my best, Lord Hideyoshi." She said.
Hideyoshi pat her back, "That's the spirit! I'll be looking for favorable results tomorrow, okay?"
As soon as she walked out of the room, (F/N) let out a long sigh.
"Will he really remember?"
-
Mitsunari was scowling, Yoshitsugu was silently observing, and (F/N) tightly clutched her twin swords.
In the end, the battle was not in favor of the Toyotomi. The Date turned the tides, seeing a weakness through different clans being forced to work together.
"(F/N), are you sure you're ready? You look tense." Yoshitsugu asked, peering into the young woman's eyes.
"There's no going back. I don't have any other choice." She frowned at him.
"I'll be looking for favorable results tomorrow, okay?"
A dark brown horse came barging through the main camp's gates, riding it was a young man with the flashiest helmet (F/N) has ever seen.
Her body began moving on its own as soon as she got a glimpse of what was underneath that helmet: an eyepatch covering the man's right eye.
She heard Yoshitsugu and Mitsunari calling out her name when she let go of her weapons. Her heart beat faster. She was getting closer and closer to who she assumed was the leader of the Date and--
*SMACK*
Everyone fell silent as the rider fell from his horse and onto the snowy ground. He put a hand to his cheek where he was punched, and yelped when (F/N) sat on top of him and smacked his face again.
"YOU- IDIOT- WHY- WON'T- YOU- JUST- GIVE- UP!" She screamed inbetween slaps or punches.
"I DON'T KNOW-- WHAT THE HELL--- YOU'RE TALKING ABO-UT ARGHH-- WOMAN!!" The poor man underneath her replied, trying his best to protect himself.
"L-Lord Masamune..." A man with glasses arrived at the scene, looking at his lord in pity.
Yoshitsugu was amused, Mitsunari was confused, and (F/N) was now crying as she punched the living hell out of a familiar face.
-
"My lord, (F/N) seems livelier than ever." Nene whispered to Hideyoshi with a smile.
"D-dear, I think you mean more violent.." He replied.
(F/N) pushed her old friend's head down on the floor, mouthing to him 'beg for forgiveness'.
"G-gah... I beg for your forgiveness, Lord Hideyoshi.." He managed out.
Kojūrō also bowed down, without any prompts from (F/N).
Hideyoshi awkwardly coughed, "I- uh- forgive you. You are truly an interesting man, Date Masamune." He gave him a smile, referring to the giant cross in the back of the room*.
(F/N) removed her fist from Masamune's head.
Masamune glared at her and she, in turn, slightly shoved his head. Kojūrō held back a laugh, but the small 'hah' that escaped his lips wasn't unheard by the people in the room.
"(F/N), please escort them out." Hideyoshi said, giving her a small smile as she and the two men walked out.
It was awkwardly silent until Kojūrō cleared his throat.
"(F/N), we never expected you to be here, of all places." He commented, Masamune giving him a look at the word 'we'.
"I never expected to see you two again in these circumstances." (F/N) replied.
"Lord Masamune missed you." Kojūrō blurted out before making a wrong turn on purpose, leaving only the two childhood friends together.
"KOJŪRŌ!" Masamune yelled, his face flushing a shade of red.
"Well, Mr. One-Eyed-Dragon," (F/N) rolled her eyes at the nickname, "I missed you too." She smiled, giving Masamune a slightly strong pat on the back.
He looked away in reply, the darker shades on his face still not fading away.
"You barely changed." (F/N) commented.
"You as well." Masamune replied.
"Oh? Not even my cute face from before changed?"
"No, I meant that how you're still flat hasn't changed."
"Why you.."
-
It seemed like a long walk (and it actually was, with (F/N) leading Masamune to a lot of detours) but they finally made it out. Kojūrō was already there, waiting for them.
"Did you have fun, Lord Masamune?" He gave Masamune a knowing smile. The younger man glared at him in reply.
Their horses were already prepared. Masamune was about to mount his but he looked back at (F/N).
"Come with us." He pleaded.
She shook her head, a sad smile on her face. "I can't. The Toyotomi is my family now, and you know that I can't abandon family so easily.."
There was silence as they looked into each others' eye/s.
"Milord, we have to go." Kojūrō broke the silence and the tension between the two.
Masamune mounted his horse.
"....'Til next time." (F/N) said, her voice full of restraint.
"...Let's go." Masamune spurred his horse forward, Kojūrō's following suit.
(F/N) could only watch as their figures got smaller as the distance between them got larger. She felt droplets of rain falling on her head and frowned.
It seems like some things aren't meant to be.
-
*if i remember correctly he carried this giant cross (kinda like Jesus Christ) to hideyoshi when he asked for forgiveness on being late to the battle of odawara (something like that).
