Nobody's POV

Karma tapped his foot anxiously against the pavement, his hands in his pockets as a desperate action to try and keep them warm. Apparently, rubbing his fingers together just wasn't enough, and they had gone almost numb.

Why, oh why had he forgotten gloves?

Right. He was trying to be early.

Karma Akabane never tries at anything. Sure, when he had that damn Korosensei, he tried to kill him, and he tried in his exams. Sure, he tried then.

But why was he trying now, when Korosensei was gone? Was it because he hadn't seen her in three years? Was it because, when she contacted him, she sounded excited?

Excited about him? Karma didn't believe it.

...Over the phone, she did seem energetic, though. Maybe...

"Karma!" The short girl's familiar voice called out from behind the red haired boy. He turned to see Kayano, in all her glory.

She hadn't changed, other than the fat that she appeared to be shorter. As she got closer, Karma found himself looking down at the short girl, studying the smile on her face as she looked up at him.

"Hi, Kayano." Karma couldn't help but feel slightly mischevious. "You're as short as ever."

Her face instantly morphed into an adorable, angry glare - made a lot more comical because of her height. "Shut up! It's not like you've changed!"

"Actually, I've grown and become far more mature." He found himself smirking, liking the feeling of showing off to her. He wanted her to admire him.

"I've become more mature, too!" Kayano stomped. Karma raised an eyebrow in response to her action.

"Sure, Kayano. Sure."

Kayano huffed. "Anyway, I wanted to meet up to see how things are with you. Nobody's seen you around. I'm surprised you even had time for this." Kayano chuckled, trying to joke off the hurt laced into her words.

"Sorry." Karma mumbled. "I've been... busy."

Kayano rolled her eyes, grabbing Karma's wrist. "Come on! I didn't plan for us to just stand here and chat! Let's go!"

Karma found himself being lead to a theatre - one that had posters of Kayano with black hair on the front. "Umm... I got us tickets to see a play... ignore the posters."

Karma blinked twice. "I knew you acted, but I didn't realize you made it this big! Congratulations, Kayano!"

Kayano found her cheeks matching Karma's hair in colour. "Oh, umm, t-thanks. It's really not that big a deal."

Karma laughed, ruffling her black hair and messing it up. "Always the modest one. Hey, what happened to Nagisa? Did you two get together after all?"

Kayano's cheeks heated up even more. "It... it actually didn't work out between us. We split pretty early on."

"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that." Karma said. Kayano shrugged it off.

"Hey, isn't that the girl from the poster?" People in the queue to be let in began to point at Kayano. "She looks taller on there."

Kayano pouted angrily, making Karma burst out laughing. "They're right, you know. You are tiny."

"No need to rub it in, idiot!" Kayano swatted Karma as the two reached the front of the queue. Kayao rifled in her purse for the two tickets, which she pulled out and held proudly in front of her face, before slipping them to the man at the front desk.

The guy at the front desk looked up, recognising Kayano. "Oh, Kayano! So this is what you were planning to use your night off for!"

Kayano chuckled. "Hey, Soichiro. And yeah, I wanted my friend here to come and see a play with me." She gestured to Karma, who was forcing a smile at this "Soichiro" guy.

What was Kayano's relationship with him?

"Just friends, huh?" Soichiro raised an eyebrow at Kayano, who took a subtle glance at Karma's (completely neutral, although unnoticeably excited) reaction whilst going bright red and proceeding to glare at Soichiro. Said guy just looked Karma up and down once more, chuckling softly at Kayano's reaction, and handing the tickets back. "You got fourth row tickets in the Grand Circle. Some of the best seats in the house."

Karma took Kayano's hand and stormed off, towards the theatre. "Do you two have a thing?" Karma questioned.

Kayano stopped walking, causing Karma to stop as well, almost letting go of her wrist. Her eyebrows furrowed together for a second, before she burst out laughing.

"Me? With Soichiro? Karma, I don't think you understand." Kayano managed to press out between laughs.

"What? What don't I understand?"

"Karma... Soichiro... he doesn't like girls 'that' way."

Karma paused, turning back to Kayano, who was on the verge of bursting out into giggles again.

"Aww, was someone getting a little jealous?" She teased.

Karma turned straight back around and away from Kayano, proceeding to drag her along the hall to the - hopefully - dark theatre, so he could hide his blush.

They got there quickly (after going up several sets of stairs) and took their seats. The curtain was down, and the audience was alive with quiet, decent chatter. The lights were slightly yellow tinted, but succeeded in hiding Karma's still warm cheeks a little better.

Just as the two got comfortably seated, the lights faded out and the audience's chatter faded into silence as the curtains rose, revealing a young boy sweeping the stage. He proceeded to sing a few bars, before another girl, maybe two years older, joined him with a mop and a melodic voice. Soon, a large chorus was singing as performers were doing a complex dance, with props and everything.

The story, as Karma came to grasp it, was about a palace maid (usually played by Kayano) that fell deeply in love with the head guard, but her younger brother forbade her from meeting him, because he wanted her to marry the prince.

When the knight and the maid kissed somewhere during the middle of the play, both Karma and Kayano found themselves rather uncomfortable in their seats. "You have to do that?" Karma asked.

"Every day. It's okay, though. He and I are good friends, and we laugh it off in the wings, or in our dressing rooms."

Karma looked at Kayano - her petite figure, exotically beautiful features illuminated only by the light of the stage.

"Kayano?" He asked, his voice barely a whisper.

Her eyes drew away from the two main characters kissing on stage. "Yes?" She asked, turning to face him.

All she was met with was a pair of warm lips, and a kiss that felt much better than any she had recieved from her co-star.

Maybe she should take days off to bring Karma to this theatre more often.
