The buzzing sound of a phone was filling the room. This room had one wall painted into Maroon and the rest of the walls were white. The maroon wall was the background of the double bed which had a black dreamcatcher hanging from above. A black arm chair was next to the window on one of the white walls, covered in clothes that were mostly black, a few grays and a few maroons as well as an olive drab t-shirt. Her wardrobe was what's next to the armchair. The opposite wall had a big vanity table, right next to a tall mirror. It was covered in foundation bottles. Necklaces were hanging from the sides of its mirror. There was a face in that mirror. A girl with black hair that had just been straightened. Dead straight. She's neatly putting on her eyeliner. When she puts down the eyeliner, she touches her hair then, winks at the reflection of herself before she grabs her dark red leather backpack resting on the floor by the door.
Kat leaves the house just in time to catch the school bus. She can feel the eyes of some of the people on the bus on her. She acts like she doesn't and walks towards back to find her seat kept for her by Izzy's black backpack which was considerably bigger than Kat's. It doesn't take long until they reach the school because Kat's the last one to be picked up. Ice was waiting for them in the entrance of the school when they arrived. She was wearing black jeans, similar to the one Kat was wearing but she, unlike Kat, combined it with a gray New York T-shirt, a black zipper hoodie and black converses. Kat's jeans were high-waisted and she was wearing a black crop top over it, with a denim jacket and 2 inch high black shoes.
This year is going to be Kat's year. Senior Year. The year that finalises everything and Kat was determined about not finishing High School the way she started. Joining a few clubs, maybe.
When they reached their lockers, Kat checked her phone for the first time since she left the house. There were 2 notifications: "Snapchat From Arden Fitzgerald." and "Snapchat From Travis O'Connor." "Which one is that?" Ice asked. "Both." Kat smiled without raising her head from her Rose Gold iPhone 6S that her mom bought her on her last birthday.
You must be thinking, "Okay, we know Arden but who the hell is Travis."
Every year a bands competition takes place between High Schools in Berkeley and Ice is the lead singer of Berkeley High's band. On the last event, Ice sneaked her friends in.
"There is this guy from Richardson High's band, he is also a producer raised in a family of musicians. It looks just like your type to me." Ice depicted to Kat. This was a tall boy, "but not as tall as Arden." Kat thought - she had done her research, of course. He had short black hair and as Ice says, blue-green eyes. Eyes were the first thing Ice checked out. Probably because she had green eyes, herself. He was all dressed in black and had a piercing on his full lips. His style looked like the kind Kat would find attractive but he was nowhere near Arden.
Rather than Kat, Izzy actually seemed to find him cute but the guy seemed to be checking out Ice. So, nothing happened that day, they all let it go.
3 days later, Ice posted a photo of her and Kat's on Facebook where Travis saw it. 3 notifications appeared on Kat's lock screen: "Travis O'Connor sent you a friend request on Facebook.","Travis O'Connor followed you on Instagram." and "Travis O'Connor added you on Snapchat."
Kat wouldn't typically add someone from every social media account in a day but there was no shame in Travis.
Now...
"So, you're still talking with Travis." Izzy said. "Yes. Why wouldn't I be?" Kat asked. "Yeah. Jasper told her that Travis has a girlfriend of over 3 years. Why wouldn't she be? How wrong could it be to flirt with a guy in a long term relationship?" Ice mocked. "That and don't you like Arden?" Izzy asked. "Well, that didn't stop her from dating Jasper and talking about Arden with him, did it?" Ice said with a pity in her voice. "Yeah, that was a shame." Izzy agreed. "Well, we saw that coming, didn't we? Luke shouldn't have been that insistent about that." Ice said like she does all the time when the conversation comes down to this point. "Well, Kat shouldn't have agreed to date the guy." Izzy defended. Kat interrupted them, "You know that I'm still here, right?"
"So, we have a Jasper now." You're saying, aren't you? Aren't you? Well, yes we do.
"C'mon Jasper is my friend and he is interested in you. Besides, you've sort of been flirting for the last 6 months." Luke was trying to convince Kat into accepting Jasper's date offer. Jasper and Luke were old friends and Luke liked the idea of having Jasper among his group of friends so when he heard that he was intrested in Kat, he was thrilled with the idea of them being together. "She likes Arden." Izzy said, innocently. "She likes the guy she saw on that TV show last night, as well." Luke indicated. "That's not true." Izzy kept on being innocent. "Might be a little true." Kat corrected. Izzy sighed as Luke chuckled.
"I can't handle with him being all that nice all the time." Kat explained, "I'll break his heart.". "Just give it a shot." Luke nearly begged.
After she slept on it, the decision was made. Jasper was going to be her first ever boyfriend. Ice's main factor of not liking this idea was that, that Kat's first boyfriend was going to be someone she didn't like but someone her friend wanted her to date.
It took 12 days. Kat wanted to break up every single day but she just couldn't get herself to say it out loud. Nothing really happened between them. They had 2 dates where Ice, Izzy and Luke were there too which made it more like going out with friends. He was always calling her names, "Sweetheart.", "Princess", "Honey."... Kat didn't like any of them, at all. They were too cute for her and she didn't like to be called those.
At the end of what felt like a lot longer than 12 days, Ice told him that Kat didn't like him the way he did. Ice doesn't like the idea of people who don't necessarily like each other being together. She hates people getting broken hearted but it was the best at that moment for him to know. At last, he did what Kat couldn't do, and broke up with her.
But then Kat wished she did it. How could she be the one getting dumped when she was the side who didn't want to be in the relationship. That was irritating, but at least it saved her from Luke's endless blaming words on her about dumping his friend.
Now...
"Kat. Kat! Kat stop texting. He is coming. Kat, he's coming!"
