Ever since that day when I met him, I've been searching for him. I went to multiple islands and dangerously close to human land which my father forbid me to go near it. But I recklessly disobeyed him and went there anyways. After a long while of searching for him barefooted my legs started to hurt. I decided to go search for a stream nearby connected to the ocean so I could go back to my school's dorm and grab a couple clothes that were supposed to resemble human clothing.
That was about 200 years ago...........
Mari the mermaid passed away when constantly searching for the boy she met when she got lost. Her love drove her obsession to find him became worse and was eventually caught by a mermaid hunter. They locked her up in a small lake chaining her hands to a tree near the water. She was so desperate to get out that she turned back into her human form and tricked one of the guard to let her free. Once they did that she had to choice to commit suicide since she would never find her love and she couldn't take depression of not being able to see him anymore. Her mother's spirit was the one who asked the ruler of life and death to give Mari a second chance in life but the only choice was being reborn as a human. The ruler told her mother that it would have some side effects on her memories.
Modern Day : 2017 I had just bought a new apartment for me to live in while continuing my studies in Korea. I was originally born in America but my parents moved to Seoul for my dad's promotion from work. I used to get scolded all the time for talking back at my teacher in elementary and middle school for being "sassy" which I don't get because school is a hell hole for boring. My parents sent over some money so I could rent an apartment and buy food so I don't starve. Oh yeah, I'll also be going to my first year of college soon after summer break is over which was in 2 weeks.
