Finn's POV

It was a Thursday night, and I sat in bed finishing up my homework. I paused and reached for my phone. I went to Millie's contact and called her, waiting for an answer. After a few rings, her sweet, small voice answered.

"Hey babe," she greeted. I didn't even have to see her to know that she was smiling into the phone.

"Hey gorgeous," I smiled.

"What's up?"

"Oh nothing, I just wanted to see if you wanted to do something."

"Aw I'd love to but is tomorrow night okay? I'm hanging out with my friend, Sophia."

My stomach dropped at the familiar name. It rang in my ears, and suddenly I was frozen. I quickly tried getting my act together, realizing that Sophia is obviously a common name and that I needed to stop being so paranoid.

"Finn? Are you there?"

"Uh um, yeah I'm here."

"So is tomorrow night okay?"

"Yeah, yeah for sure. And um, who's Sophia? I've never heard you talk about her before."

"Oh, she's just a new friend. You should meet her, you two have the same sense of humor. You'd really like her."

"Well I'd love to meet her sometime."

"Alright well I gotta go, I'll see you tomorrow, babe. Love you!" She said cheerfully.

"Love you too gorgeous. Have fun," I smiled once more. I hung up the phone and tossed it back down. After about 20 minutes more of doing homework, my phone vibrated at my side. I wondered who it could've been, knowing it couldn't be Millie. I looked at the lock screen and my heart immediately began to race.

"Mom?"

"Finn, honey," she let out a sigh of relief, "I wasn't expecting you to answer. My goodness, I'm already a mess." She let out a small laugh to take away from the fact that she was crying.

"Mom I- we haven't talked in so long," I said, my throat starting to tighten.

She sniffled. "God, does it feel amazing to hear your voice... how have you been?"

"I've been really good, mom," I smiled into the phone.

"Yeah? What's been going on?"

"Well I um... I met a girl. An amazing one, actually."

"I've been waiting for this," she let out another small laugh, "what's her name?"

"Millie... Millie Brown."

"Well, I'd um.. I'd really like to meet her some time."

"Yeah," I paused as I smiled, "yeah, for sure."

I heard her let out a small sigh into the phone as we stayed silent for a moment. "So, um, how have things been at home?" I asked. I hadn't seen them ever since I moved out and began living with Dane, which seemed like years ago.

"Things have still been pretty hard, hun, and we really miss you."

"I miss you guys too," I said, trying to fight back the tears in my eyes.

"Please come visit soon, okay?"

"I will for sure, mom. Promise."

"Alright, hun, I just wanted to check in... it was lovely hearing your voice again..." she trailed off, the sadness visible in her voice.

"Yours too."

"Bye, hun, I love you so much."

"I-I love you too, mom." I quickly hung up the phone and stared at the empty white wall in front of me.

My breaths were heavy and slow as I continued to drown in my thoughts. I ran my fingers through my messy hair, still sitting up in bed. I slowly stood up and took a few steps forward, taking a deep breath with every step I took. I rubbed my hands wearily on my face, pacing slowly back and forth in the small, shitty apartment I was renting in the bad part of town. I walked over to my desk, which was really just a fold-up table, and trailed my finger along it. Miscellaneous papers covered the small, black surface, my eyes wandering over them. My mind continued to flood with thoughts, but at the same time, it was like I felt nothing. I haven't felt anything in a year, ever since I teamed up with Dane. Everything that's happened... it's changed me. It's changed me to the point of no return, and I know there's no way of going back to how I used to be.

Before I got dragged into all of this. I was close with my parents, and I enjoyed spending time with them. And Nick... God, I miss him more than words can even express. He was my best friend and the best brother I could ask for, and I knew I could count on him for anything and everything. I loved Vancouver, and the people I had befriended throughout my time there. I miss my soft bed, and the posters that covered the walls of my very own bedroom. I missed feeling like everything was okay. But that was all ruined because of Dane. One day, God, one day, I would get back at him for all he's done. For all of the lives he's ruined. For ruining Sophia's life, considering the amazing person she is. For ruining Wyatt and Jaeden's lives, considering they weren't total assholes before he turned them into ones. For ruining my life, and everything that I once had. For ruining every fucking thing just because of his selfish needs.

I swiped the papers across the desk, and they immediately began flying all over the small, dull room. I picked up the chair and threw it roughly at the poorly carpeted ground. I've had enough of this. The way he always got his way, and the way he had control over everyone was gonna come to an end. Even if I had to end it myself.

A/N: so so sorry for this super shitty, unbelievably short chapter, but i promise things will start coming up. This was more of a filler chapter, but it does slightly foreshadow the ending so keep an eye out (;  comment your thoughts about the ending!
