I woke up gasping for air as the frightening sound of thunder blared through the tiny cracks hidden on my bedroom's wall. Oh god, I fell asleep didn't I? This was bad. I looked out of my window to see thunders constantly hitting the ground with a thick fog covering the view.
"Help!" I heard my mother's scream from downstairs. Her voice was trembling and laced with fear. I quickly got up and ran as fast as I could to the source of the terrifying sound. My body was shivering, caused by the unusual cold temperature of the house. There were no more signs of my mother anywhere. I walked slowly to my mother's room, my heart rate increasing with every step I took. I wiggled open the door carefully. My knees instantly dropped to the ground, my hands covered my nose to prevent the horrible stench, and the feeling of nausea was spreading all over my stomach and chest as I stared at my mother's lifeless body hung on the ceiling.
Her head was bitten, only leaving half part of her brain out in the open. Her left arm was cut off, leaving big marks of strange big teeth. And her body was barely recognizable. Giant teeth were left on every curves of her body. My eyes were soaked with tears yet somehow I couldn't scream. I turned around to face the mirror, and screamed inaudibly. My mouth was stitched shut. My eyes nearly fell of my eye pockets as shock and fear took over me.
Then in a split second, everything disappeared. I woke up from my sleep for the second time tonight. It was just a bad dream.. I stayed on my bed not moving, still paralyzed by the horrifying nightmare I just had. I was sweating, it felt so real. Too real to be just a nightmare. I opened my mouth just to make sure it wasn't stitched just like in the previous dream. I quickly ran to my window and looked outside. It was snowy this time. But It wasn't winter at the time, which meant.. I was still dreaming.
The reason why I never wanted to sleep at night was because if I did, I would be trapped in my own mind. I was one of the people who could experience lucid dream easily. In my case, it could happen whenever I force myself to sleep. It was a mind-bending experience, because whenever I got trapped inside a lucid dream, it was always a never ending nightmare. My lucid dreams were layered. In the dream, I woke up, something bad happened, then everything started all over again. Sometimes it was so hard to know whether I was awaken still in a dream or awaken in real life.
From the distance, I could see something but wasn't sure what it was. I squinted my eyes but I didn't succeed. "Mother?!" I shouted, making sure my mom was alright this time. There was no response. I quickly dashed downstairs to her room.
I found my mother fast asleep on her bed. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth, at least it wasn't my mother this time. I grabbed my mom's coat and opened my front door, feeling a bit unsure. What I saw was creeping me to the core, because I couldn't see anything at all. My house was fogged completely. I couldn't see anything from down here except the thick fog, snow everywhere and the ground which was made of ice. It was as if my house was in the middle of Atlantic. In the middle of nowhere to be exact. "Hello?!" I shouted while draping myself with my arms, trying to prevent the cold from seeping under my coat. My own voice echoed endlessly. I wanted to just go back inside the house but I knew if I did, the second layer of nightmares wouldn't break. I couldn't wake up until something bad happens.
I had no choice but to walk farther outside and try to find the mysterious thing I saw earlier. I took one step at a time very gently. The ice I stepped on was so thin, if I break one, I could fall straight to the freezing water underneath.
I walked and walked for what felt like miles, until I saw something underneath the ice. I approached it carefully. I realized from the distance that it was a body, floating on the freezing water. As I got closer to the body, I gasped, leaving clouds of cold smoke.
The body was me.
Under the ice, the other me was wearing the same thing as I was. The differences were, she was under water, her eyes closed shut and her hands were crossed.I got to one knee and observed the body. As my face got closer to the body's face, my finger touched the ice which was the only barrier that kept us separated. Then the thin ice cracked. Oh no. Just then, the other me's eyes shuttered open abruptly. The eyes stared right into my soul. Then her right hand broke through the ice easily and grabbed my hand. "Help!" I screamed with pure terror lingering on my watery eyes.
Before I could do anything, It was too late. She already managed to pull me under water while she got out. I fell right into the coldest water I had ever felt in my entire life. I held my breath as everything became blurry. I tried to reach for the hole to get out, but I couldn't find it. I opened my eyes, but the ice were already back to normal. There was no scratch, no hole, and absolutely no way out. All I could see was the other me standing there staring down at me without any signs of mercy.
I punched the ice barrier multiple times but somehow I wasn't strong enough. I tossed and turn and punched trying my best to break out. I struggled to keep staying alive until I started to suffocate, I couldn't hold my breath any longer. I could hear my heart beat getting slower. I gave up as my whole body became stiff and numb. I couldn't move, so I let myself sank into the darkness. I waited for the moment of death to come.
But suddenly my mouth and eyes opened, my nose functioned altogether. I took a deep sharp breath. I realized I could breathe under water. Then the other me outside the ice turned around and walked away. I swam to the top until I could touch the ice above me. I followed her. I kept on swimming for what felt like forever, until suddenly she stopped moving. She raised her finger to her right. I looked to the direction and saw something big. "Run! Run please! Run!" I tried to scream from underwater. The beast started to walk towards her. But she couldn't hear me.
She crumpled her hands and stared at the beast with stern eyes. Then I felt pain seeping to both of my hands. I stared at my hands to see scratches forming by itself. It cut through itself until I felt like it was forming holes. I looked to the other me above, her grasp on her own hands were getting tighter and tighter. I realized our fingers were long and sharp. Her fingers were cutting through her own hands, and mine as well. I realized our body was tied together. Everything she felt, I felt it too.
Adrenaline rushed to me as I tried to break the ice once again. But I stopped and screamed as blood started to ooze out of my hands. And the other me's blood were dripping as well, staining the ice above me. I swam to my left to get a clean view. And what I saw terrified me.
Standing a few steps away from her, was a wolf. With brown thick fur, sharp teeth, and red eyes. It was reaching for her. She shocked me when she started to scream with her high pitch voice. It felt like the frequency of her screams were too high. My ears started drumming uncontrollably until blood oozed out of it. "Stop- screaming!" A muffled scream escaped my mouth.
Without any warning, I felt a sharp pain shot through my chest. My body arched as my heart and organs floated out of me. I looked above and saw a long and sharp spear that went through the other me's chest. Her heart was dangling on the end of the spear. And what shocked me even more was the person who held the spear.
It was my mother. And that was the last thing I saw before the darkness of death took over.
I really was dead this time.________________
