Although my head was throbbing and my hands were shaking, I tried to think of something else rather than the pain. I tried to form words to speak.
"Attention! Stop!" I lifted my hands up and wiggled it in the air. I never thought it would work, but it did. They all stopped and turned their attentions to me, staring with no expression whatsoever."I am Crystal Rivergold and I have come with a friend in peace! We mean no harm! We are looking for a cure for my sickness." I shouted, hopeful. "It is true sisters, she has come in peace. She is a healer. She returned my hand." The mermaid with blond hair and lovely soft pink tail lifted her right hand and showed it off proudly. "I'll guide her and make sure she is no danger." She said, smiling at me.
"Alright. She may go! But we will keep her friend with us until she gets back. Make one wrong decision and he'll be dead." The leader warned me. "Thank you, thank you so much." My eyes looked for Keith and saw him standing helplessly on the flipped-over boat. I flashed him a sympathetic smile as most of the remaining mermaids returned back inside the water. "This way." The once again beautiful blonde mermaid led me the way. We swam and swam. When she was going too fast, I told her to slow down.
"Where are we going? What's in there?" I threw the questions I was dying to ask. "To the water temple. You'll meet The Mistress of the Syrian Land, Atargatis. The goddess of all mermaids. She was the first one who found this island, one of the first ancestors of CrimsonVille." She rambled. "Okay, can you tell me something about the cure? How it looks like or.. anything really." I asked desperately, my brain still pounding against my skull. "I'm afraid I can't tell you that. There are many cures, and Atargatis will know which one you need. She can read through people and read the future." She said as if it was the most obvious thing, while we kept swimming.
"I- um okay. So you can read minds as well?" I asked her, curious about the sweet creature. "Well, no. But I can control water. No biggie, really. Everyone here can, except they're much more powerful and have much more powers. I'm no extraordinary." She looked at me and smiled sincerely. I didn't answer.
"And by the way, I'm the newest here. If you can't already tell. I'm the youngest, the most sane and non-vicious out of all my sisters." She grinned. "Yeah, I can see that. Thanks for standing up for me." I smiled, genuinely grateful. "Ah, it's fine really. Thanks for healing my hand." She returned my smile.
"We're here." She turned to me and I quickly lifted my head from the water. I was amazed at the sight. "What is that.." although I knew it was the water temple, I couldn't find the words to describe it. Water floating in the air, as if it was a gate or a wall made of water. "Any tips?" I looked at her, an expression of worry and uncertainty plastered on my pale face.
"Don't stare at her head or her fishes for too long, she gets insecure." She whispered. "Wait- one more thing. What's your name?" I put my hand on her shoulder. "My name's Cyrena. Good luck, Crystal." I opened my mouth to say something but was cut off when she suddenly pushed me inside. My hair and clothes instantly soaked with water as I went through the water-divider. I was shivering in cold and dampness, my voice trembling with fear and caution.
