Millie had never felt more alone in her life, her eyes squeezed shut, a single tear escaping. She never knew it was possible to be too heartbroken to cry, the emotion too overwhelming for the body to respond appropriately. All she felt at that moment was a physical pain in her chest, and that something was squeezing the life out of her. She was struggling to breathe, unable to process what had just happened, that Finn had just walked out of her life, possibly for good. Maybe it's for the best, to think I thought he would have stayed with me if I was pregnant, what an idiot I am, a fucking idiot...maybe it would have been better to have died that day...who the fuck am I kidding, Millie Bobby Brown did die that day, someone came back, but I'm not the same person...I'm a fucked up, scarred, disgusting version of her... she sat on the bed holding her head in her hands, contemplating the unthinkable.

"Millie? Are you ok?"

She slowly looked up, into those beautiful brown eyes, surrounded by confusion, framed by messy hair, and shook her head not understanding what was happening. "I thought you left me" she said in a quiet voice, full of fear and sorrow.

Finn looked horrified, "no, no way, never" he said, just as a doctor walked into the room. "I went to find someone who we can talk to about this, the doctor said he'd come and explain some things." He saw the pain on her face and cursed himself for just walking off earlier, he hadn't meant for it to come across like that, but if truth be told he hadn't been able to speak at the time, overwhelmed by it all. "Come here" he said softly, sitting on her bed and pulling her into his arms. "I'm sorry, I'll never leave you, I just couldn't bear to hear what you were saying, it was cowardly I know, sorry. Let's talk to the doctor ok?"

"Hi, I'm Doctor Thomas. So, Millie, Finn tells me that before this you were pregnant, correct?"

She looked uncomfortable, but his matter of fact way of discussing it actually made it easier, like he wasn't judging her and Finn. "Yes" she replied.

"Ok, well, we've run another blood test, I'm sorry to say it looks like you're not pregnant now, I'd say you had what we call an early miscarriage, most likely brought on by the massive blood loss you suffered. Your heart also stopped a number of times, essentially you wouldn't have been able to supply the embryo with enough oxygen to survive."

Millie looked down, not sure how she felt about what Dr Thomas had said. None of it surprised her but it was still odd to hear. Looking at Finn she was shocked to see tears running down his face, not overtly crying, but his emotion clear to see. She leaned over and hugged him tight, kissing him softly on the lips, "I'm sorry" she said.

He squeezed his eyes shut for a second or two, somewhat succeeding in stopping the flow of tears, and said "what about the other thing? Her injuries...in future...will she be able to, you know?"

"Well, most of the damage was higher up in her torso, but there was one wound that was of concern. We need to do a couple more scans, now that the tissue has almost healed I can arrange that for later today, ok? I can see that you two need to know" he added, smiling at the pair of them. "I'll come back at 2 o'clock, in the meantime, take your meds, eat your lunch, and please, you both need to relax and get some rest." With that he left the room, leaving Finn and Millie alone.

Finn lay down on Millie's bed, gently pulling her down so she was lying against him, her head resting on his good shoulder. "Are you ok?" he asked her softly.

"I don't know" she replied, genuinely unsure how she was feeling, so many emotions mixed up inside. "You?"

"Same."

After a few minutes of silence Millie could tell that he had fallen asleep. She sat up slightly to look at him, watching his chest slowly rise and fall, feeling calmed by the rhythm. "I'm sorry" she whispered, gently getting off the bed and leaving him to sleep alone.

Putting on her gown, she left her room and made her way down the stark, cream colored corridor. Her and Finn's rooms were at the end of one corridor, there were other rooms but Millie noticed that they all seemed to be empty, it seemed wasteful but Millie didn't really know enough about hospitals to think any more of it. She hadn't been out of her room by herself at all, the only times she'd left she was being escorted by doctors or nurses, on her way for this scan or that treatment. She felt oddly exposed, having been surrounded by people constantly since the whole thing had started, and she didn't like the feeling and started to wonder whether she'd ever feel ok again. Deciding to go back as soon as she found what she was looking for, she carefully made her way out of the corridor. She was met by an unexpected sight, 3 uniformed cops, 2 sat at the nurse's station, clearly having been there a while judging by the number of coffee cup and various food wrappers, the other stationed by the main doors vetting anyone who entered, including, it seemed, her friends as there was Noah having a chat with him. Having no idea what was going on, she snuck into one of the side rooms that looked like a supply closet, finding what she needed and slipping it into her pocket she carefully made her way back to her room where Finn was still sleeping on her bed. She lay back down next to him but was unable to sleep, her mind racing from what she'd seen.

"Afternoon Millie, Finn" said Dr Thomas, "I've arranged an ultrasound and an MRI so we can determine exactly what's going on now and we can go from there, ok? If you're ready we can get going, do you want to walk or chauffeured in a wheelchair?" he asked smiling.

"Um, walking will be fine, thanks" said Millie, quietly.

As they were putting on their gowns Finn pulled her to one side, "are you ok, you seem...I don't know..."

"Can I tell you later?" she replied.

"Yeah, sure, come on, let's go."

As they reached the end of the corridor Millie gasped a little, there was no sign of the cops, the nurse's station returned to normal, no cop at the entrance, nothing. She knew what she'd seen, and even now, as they walked down a further corridor, she realised there were few, or no, other patients that she could see or there was any evidence of.

Am I just being paranoid...I've been cooped up for weeks, going on months...I'll talk to Finn later...
