With my mom's interrogation at the breakfast table, Veronica and I were nearly late for first period. We quickly dashed our way to class, Veronica somehow ahead of me despite wearing her signature heels. I cringe at the loud slam the door makes as she swings it open, drawing everyone's attention towards us. Our homeroom teacher, Mr. Peters, looked at the both of us ashamedly then points at a vacant table in the far back. As we follow his instructions, I notice Veronica freezes for a few seconds before proceeding to walk again. Her face went pale and the usual glossy shine to her eyes vanished in seconds. Once we arrived to our seats, I whisper as quietly as possible, "are you okay, Ronnie?"

She slowly shook her head no, still staring off into god-knows-what which completely took me by surprise. Veronica never openly admits to not being okay despite how badly she might be feeling, so the fact that she is now genuinely concerns me. Her eyes were glued intently on something so I followed the trail which lead to... Archie and some new girl's table? From a few desks to our right, Jughead stole a couple glances at us.

"Hm, who haven't I called on?" Mr. Peters thought out loud, skimming the room for a fresh new face. "How about the new girl. Vanessa, right?"

My mouth practically hung open at the sound of her name, Ronnie's story making a reappearance in my mind. My first instinct was to squeeze her hand in reassurance as I watch her sashay away to the board. She looked quite similar to Veronica with her jet black hair, except her's was much longer in that sleek glossy ponytail. As she explained the problem, a smile hitched on her face when her eyes landed on Veronica's. I could have sworn I heard Ronnie growl. As Vanessa went back to her seat, she deliberately curled her ponytail with her finger. During class, she'd occasionally let out an exaggerated giggle as she spoke with Archie who seemed a bit awkward and tense. Veronica barely touched her pencil, her eyes fixed on the two the whole time with a glowering tone to her face. As soon as the bell rang, she shoved her belongings inside her bag and rushed out of the class, slightly pushing Vanessa with her shoulders during the process. Everyone's eyes were on her meanwhile, Vanessa put on a victim facade. "Archie," I approached him, tugging on his jacket's sleeve. His eyes widened at the sudden contact. I pull him far enough where Vanessa can't hear and whisper, "she's bad news, Arch."

Archie gives me a questioning stare before answering in her defense, "she seemed nice, Betty. Not everyone who approaches me has bad intentions, y'know."

"No!" I shot back a bit too loud. At the realization of the volume of my voice, I quietly respond, "No... This doesn't have anything to do with how I feel for you if that's what you're assuming. Just..." I chewed on my bottom lip, "do this for Veronica."

He nodded his head slowly and hesitantly. "I'll be needing answers later," he whispered while heading towards his desk for the last of his belongings and exiting through the door. I sighed heavily as I stood there alone in the classroom, already anticipating what conflicts this new girl will have in store. I reach for my bag when all of a sudden, I notice two eyes staring directly act me, practically boring holes in my face. "Hey there, Juliet," Jughead remarked, breaking the ongoing silence between us. "We need to talk about yesterday."

"What's there to talk about, Jughead? Besides the fact that I had a complete meltdown in front of the whole entire classroom and made nothing but a fool out of myself."

"It's just that-," Jughead paused as he tried to formulate a sentence which surprised me considering he always knows what to say.

"How about we talk after school. I don't want to be late for class," he suggested, getting a better grip on his backpack straps.

I nodded in agreement, "okay, see ya."

We both went to class but our paths collided, causing awkward tension to brew between the both of us considering we just said bye.

"Guess it wasn't much of a see ya, wasn't it?" He chuckled.

"It's like destiny wants us to end up in the same place," I laughed softly. His facial expression changed by default as soon as those words spewed out of my mouth. Only then and there did I realize what I had just said.

Way to ease the tension, Betty.

"It does, doesn't it?" He commented and disappeared just before I could even reply. My stomach fluttered ever so slightly. Why?

The bell sounded through the halls which meant it was officially time for lunch. I sighed in relief for Vanessa and I had been sharing a class and she was consistently trying to start conversation with me. Something tells me she's trying to befriend me like she did to Veronica's past friends and that, I simply wouldn't allow. With my tray at hand, I sat at my usual seat in which I found the rest of the gang already at.

"Hey guys," I shuffled on the chair till I was satisfied and comfortable. Everyone had an inscrutable undertone to their face, including Kevin.

"What's up?" I raised an eyebrow and looked around the cafeteria till my eyes landed upon Cheryl and Vanessa, the most dangerous combination possible.

"Oh fuck."

I nearly decided not to continue this book but apparently you guys want me to, so here's a new chapter. (:
