By the time I left the diner, it was pitch black outside. The only thing that guided me back to Betty's were the street lights. On my way there, I kept constantly turning around and eying my surroundings carefully while gripping a small weapon of mine in my coat pocket. I didn't intend on leaving this late, especially knowing the fact that Jason's murder is yet to be uncovered, but after the long discussion at Pops with Jughead, time just flew. Seeing as we were already at the diner, we chose to stay and form some kind of agreement. The both of us weren't openly willing to admit to our crushes, but it was just obvious and words wouldn't be able to express how bright Jughead's eyes get when mentioning Betty's name. Not only was it my duty to get those love birds together, but also possibly having a chance with Archie? If he even feels any kind of way for me that is.
I quietly unlocked the door, the house was practically pitch black. Thanks to my phone's flashlight, however, I managed to identify the stairs. As I opened the door, I expected Betty to already be asleep but to my surprise she was huddled in the corner of her room staring out at the window.
"B-Betty?" I managed to say as I slowly walked to her direction. She rocked back and forth as she pressed her knees tightly against her chest. My heart was racing at an extreme pace, this situation looking exactly like one straight out of a horror movie. "Betty!" I whisper-yelled, my stomach churning as she mindlessly continued to rock herself. As soon as my fingertips were inches away from her shoulders, she quickly cocked her head to look at me with a creepy smile then flicked on the light switch on.
"What the hell! I almost peed my dress, you bitch," I angrily tossed my purse aside as she laughed hysterically.
"This isn't funny," I whined, sighing heavily before my body made contact with the bed.
"Seems pretty funny to me," she remarked. "How did your date with Jughead go?"
My whole body froze as the words slipped out her mouth. She seriously thinks i'm romantically involved with Jughead? That's absolutely hilarious.
"Betty, that wasn't a date. We established that at front of Pops. Jughead and I are a big no-no," I explained cautiously.
"Oh, you guys were actually serious..." she said in a relieved tone of voice as she took a seat by the edge of the bed.
I smirked. "Worried for a second there, weren't ya?"
"Of course not! I don't like Jughead," She quickly responded in her defense, her whole face turning a light shade of red.
"I've seen the way you guys look at each other. Did you completely disregard what happened that day Cheryl embarrassed you in class? I saw what I saw. The way he comforted you.. you guys almost kiss–," Betty cut off my sentence and explained in her defense, "you're delusional!"
"Who are you trying to fool? Betty, i'm your best friend. I may have not known you as long as Kevin but trust me, I know you well and I can distinguish a starstruck girl from miles away."
At first, Betty was silent trying to process each and every one of my words while deep in thought. After taking a deep breath, she quietly mumbled something so faintly, I couldn't even tell if she was speaking english.
"What?"
She took a deep breath then spoke up. "Maybe I do feel some kind of way about Jughead."
I clapped my hands together excitedly at the thought of my ship finally sailing. "Why don't you just give it a try?"
Betty's eyes hovered above the floor sadly while twiddling her fingers as she responded, "what if he rejects me like Archie did?"
