Chapter 20

James POV

Today they were giving out the Valentine's Day cards. I got a few, but they weren't important.

I opened my locker and left my bag there, because it was lunch and I didn't want to carry it around.

I turned around and Marja was there.

"Oh... hey!" I said with fake excitement.

"Hey James! So, I was thinking maybe you'd like to go to the movies together this week-end or something... wanna come? Oh by the way thanks for the card, it was so sweet! I got it when we were in English," she told me.

Wait... what card? I hadn't sent her a card!

Oh no.

I just realised she'd asked me on a date.

"Actually, about this week-end-"

She turned her head to her right and I saw what she was looking at.

Agnes and Astrid were approaching us.

Or at least they were heading in our direction.

Marja turned around quickly and smacked her lips on mine. She pushed me towards the lockers as she continued kissing me. I tried to get out of the kiss, but boy she was darn strong! I didn't try to kiss back, and I opened my eyes only to see Agnes with her mouth open, staring at me.

Oh no. This can't be happening.

I expected her to turn around and run away, Astrid behind her, but instead she stomped here and pushed Marja away from here.

Marja looked at her in disgust.

"What exactly do you think you're doing?!" she almost yelled.

"That card wasn't for you, was it?!"

"What card?" Marja said, pretending to be confused.

"The one James supposedly sent you! It was for me wasn't it?"

"Why would you think that? Don't you think you're flattering yourself too much?"

"The card said your green eyes. I think yours are pretty darn clearly brown."

Marja stared at the floor for a second.

"Your heart is ice-cold, you only want things for you and you don't care about other people!"

Marja continued staring at the floor.

Agnes turned to me.

She sighed.

"Who was the card really for?" she asks me.

Boy, is this gonna be a difficult question to answer.
