Born in the lowest floors of the black mountain young Orcs are taken to the King of the mountain to pick their job in later life. Dehaka was born with a group of 5 other Orclings. Something was different about the others. Each had a mark on their left hand in the shape of an animal, but Dehaka had no mark. Instead his left arm was completely black, any attempt to remove the taint did not bode well for the child. The mothers had no idea what to do with the child, so they continued with the ceremony.

Upon setting sight on the tiny Dehaka the King quickly passed through the other Orclings, setting his eyes upon the arm he immediately knew what this meant.

Orc culture in the mountain dictates 5 roles to keep their society running. The first is the blacksmith's, vital to creating weapons and armour for soldiers. The second are the traders, talented in communication and negotiating with other races for resources. The third are the fire tamers, children that are taught to wield and bond with fire. Able to swim in lava, These students keep the mountain's heart beating. The fourth role is the soldier. Whilst all are taught to fight in the mountain, the soldiers are specially trained all their lives to use every weapon possible on the battlefield with brutal efficiency.

The last role can only be fulfilled one person at a time. The Orcs call it the Shadow Hunter. A being that isn't restricted to only manipulating fire or war. And is trained in all the Origan arts. The Shadow Hunter is the best warrior in the mountain.

Looking down at the little Orcling the King new this would be his fate. The only problem was they weren't sure if the last Shadow Hunter was dead. Dehaka looked at the King and smiled, reached out his tiny arm and grabbed the King's finger. In that instant the King saw the terrible gift the child was given. He could see between the lands of the dead and living. For his arm was made of the void.
