Lily's P.O.V

The train journey was kind of boring. Trinity was with the boys and Sev was mad at me for letting Alice sit with us. He really needs to understand that he isn't my only friend in the world, and that sometime I have to spend time with others. So I basically spent the whole time saying random things into the air that no one replied to.

Nothing really happened until the journey was over. We got off at Hogsmede Station and took the strange, horse-less carriages up to the school. Of course, Trinity felt the need to interrupt the awkwardness.

"Make way! Coming through!" she yelled, pushing people out her way as she sprinted towards the entrance.

Falling into step by my side, the brunette pulled her robes tighter round her shoulders as the chilly evening air swept over us.

"Well, this is it, Lils, we're second years!" She grinned, laughing as a cloud of breath appeared before us.

I looked sideways at her - something was off. Sure, Trinity was always bubbly, loud and excitable, but I had learnt to tell when her happy mood was a cover up for feelings my friend wasn't sure she could face.

"What's up?" I asked carefully, suddenly walking on eggshells in case the problem was hard for her to talk about.

"Up? Nothing's up, well the sky is, but nothing in the sense you were talking about."

"Don't lie to me, Trinity, something's on your mind."

She looked away, and I could see the unsure look on her face, pondering whether or not to tell me what was going on.

"Um ... well ... it's just ... my brother is getting sorted today." She avoided my eyes, fiddling with the fastening on her cloak.

"Trinity, Sirius is your twin." I said confusedly, wondering what was going on in her mind.

"No," she chuckled slightly slightly, "my other brother - Regulus. He's incredibly sarcastic and a total Mummy's boy. I have a horrible feeling that he's going in the same direction as all of my other family members who ended up idiots."

I didn't know what to say. Trinity hadn't even told me she had another brother! But then, I was beginning to get the feeling that there was far more to my friend than I could ever have imagined.

As I looked over at her, a serious face that I rarely saw playing on her features, I couldn't help but wonder -what did she want for Regulus? Surely she wanted him to be like her and Sirius, to understand what is right and what is wrong, yet why did it seem as if this situation was not that clean cut?

Trinity Black was hiding something.

We had, by this time, entered the entrance hall, which magnified the conversations of one thousand children.

"Professor McGonagall! Had a lovely summer I hope! Mine was wonderful, thank you for asking, and don't worry, this year's adventures are already planned out - the Marauders have had thinking time and are returning more troublesome than ever."

Jumping at Trinity's sudden change of mood, I followed her gaze to where Professor McGonagall was hurrying students into the Great Hall. Upon spotting Trinity and I, the exasperated expression I recognised all too well from the previous year dawned on the teacher's face.

"Hello, Miss Black," she sighed, shaking her head ever so slightly, before the two of us got swept along into the hall.

"Honestly, it's like she doesn't even care about me."

I rolled my eyes, taking a seat at the Gryffindor table. As the rest of the student body filed into the room, we found ourselves sat with Alice, Mary and Marlene. Or course, as the fifth and final member of our party took a seat, a loud groan emitted from beside me. Marlene glared at Trinity.

"I don't know what that was about, Black, it's not like I'm the neanderthal of the group," she spat.

"And that is where I take my leave, see you guys in the dorm," Trinity stood up, walked further down the table, and plonked herself next to Remus Lupin, who looked around, slightly bemused by his sudden accomplice, noticed the now fuming young girl and said nothing.

James's P.O.V

It was going to be a great year. The Marauders and I had planned a year that would go down in history. We were going to be remembered.

I was in the middle of an important conversation, that had to do with upcoming events, when we were joined by our one female member. Sitting down abruptly, Trinity glared firmly at a spot on the table, saying nothing.

"Right, what's wrong with yo-"

"Don't ask," she cut me off before I had even finished my question, I nodded gently, observing the two Black siblings share a knowing glance with one another.

Returning to my previous discussion, it was only five minutes before the elegant doors opened once more to reveal a line of shaking first-years.

Sirius's P.O.V

I spotted him immediately. My brother was stood between a small, mousy girl who looked as if she was moments away from passing out, and a dark-haired boy with heavy features that were slightly too big for is face. Regulus wasn't nervous. That much was clear. He walked with an air of arrogance that I recognised all too well from observing cousins, aunts, uncles and even my parents over the years. That was when I knew, that was the moment I realised my brother was going to be just like them. In that moment, he looked like my father. Observing the crowds as if he was above them, a certain sneer contaminating his otherwise handsome features as his eyes swept over the Hufflepuff table.

And, much as it had done for me, the Sorting began. Names were called, students were sorted, and houses cheered. I payed no attention until his name was called.

"Black, Regulus," McGonagall's voice pierced the room, and both me and Trinity looked up in anticipation.

Striding forwards in poised confidence, Regulus sat on the stool and waited for the hat to be lowered onto his head.

It was only then that he saw us. Trinity and I, sat at the Gryffindor table with identical looks of disappointed confusion we were hastily trying to conceal.

I don't know what it was, but seeing his brother and sister shook Regulus. And, being the slightly less experienced sibling, he let his guard down. For a moment, I saw a scared little boy, and for a moment, I knew a part of him wanted that hat to yell Gryffindor as it had for us.

But it was just a moment. And soon, the ragged, old hat was covering his eyes. One minute. Two minutes. Not much longer. I didn't know what I wanted. Evans was looking at Trinity nervously. Trinity had fixed her gaze on Regulus. I reached over and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder; she flashed me a sad smile.

"Slytherin!"

And that was that.
