Saturday morning came by quickly. Summer and the gang (exclude Zack) decided that we hang out at the mall. I quickly showered, slid on some denim jeans and off-shoulder white top. I slipped my feet on some strap-on sandals and got down from my room, and waited patiently for Summer to pick me up.

Mum was out for work, and my brother, Red was out with his college buddies. Yeah, I had a brother. Didn't see that comin'?

So, as I waited I took my phone from my pocket and played a few games, before Summer finally came. She was wearing a silk magenta, cold shoulder dress. Her feet wore golden sandals, wrapping my best friend's feet in its strapped rings. She beckoned me to the silver jeep parked at the other side of the sidewalk. We got in, and Freddy, dressed in a simple white shirt and jeans greeted us, and beside him Lawrence, wearing a green shirt saying, Techno baby.

I sat across Esme, who was seating next to Lawrence. She was wearing shorts and a pink sweatshirt. She sneakily intertwined her fingers between Lawrence's. I gave her a smile, but I felt jealous. My friends had their own love life and I was feeling like a third wheel to all of them.

As if reading my mind, "You're never our third wheel, Tomiks," Summer whispered.

I hugged her and we went our way to the mall. As soon as we got down, we went straight to the arcade. After a little games, we went to McDonald's for some brunch.

As we ordered our cheeseburgers and fries, Cassandra and Vicky came by the next line. I resisted the urge to hopefully wish that Zack was with them. They must not have noticed us because they spoke loudly cackling like as if they were onto something. And they were.

"Zack, he's a bore. He's my puppy on a leash, does everything I tell him. He even makes my homework done!" Cassandra gloated.

Vicky grinned, "Keith is much better than him. Hotter than his asian looks. Did you even see him bench press at the gym?"

Cassandra waved her arms, as if swatting flies away, "Keith is too much uptight. Boy, didn't he even let me kiss him."

They talked on and on as if the two guys were just a piece of meat. I remembered Zack going out everytime with a handful of textbooks, his phone in his ear, talking with Cassandra. That made much more sense. I crept nearer to the pair as they babbled about useless stuff.

"I even told Zack to tell on his dad that he should move to another class, and guess what? He did! That boy, fulfilling a life of a puppet," Cassandra laughed darkly. I wanted to punch her, but I didn't want to be found out that I was eavesdropping.

I carefully walked to my friends where they waited for me. They were already eating, fries were stacked in a high pile as they bit off their burgers. As soon as I sat down, I told them everything I heard.

Slowly but surely, their mouth started dropping. Completely shocked and angered, Lawrence did no longer eat his food, let alone touch it.

"So, everything that happened was just forced?" he said, tearing up, he must be remembering the time he pushed away his friend. He must have been lonely, given to it that Zack and Lawrence were besties since preschool.

_______________

Monday morning, we all had blackened moods. We tried practicing a song, but it sounded weird and off-key to all of us.

Unfortunately, Principal Mullins came to watch us 'learn,' she wanted me to prove that Mr. Finn was the best teacher, but now was not the good time. She just sat there, inspecting all of us breakdown.

"I see you're all thinking about something," she said at last, rising from her seat and walked out of the door without another word. I was thankful that she understood we needed privacy.

Suddenly, Esme bursted inside the classroom, "Guys. Zack. Outside. Screaming."

We all exchanged looks, and followed her out the school's race track. A bunch of jocks were surrounding a heap of black and red. They kept swinging their muscled legs back and forth until the heap gave a pained scream. A scream I knew so well.

"Zack!" I shouted as I ran towards the burly guys.

They smirked as I neared them, and they barred me away from Zack. Their sweaty bodies reeking of body odor made me gag. They stared at me as I fanned my face and made a face.

They looked provoke, and I gagged harder. It was easy to not pretend to gag, because I already was.

"You need a shower," I managed to croak between my gaggings. They exchanged confused looks and started running for the shower room. I giggled, and remembered Zack was still injured right at my feet.

"Zack," I whispered, kneeling beside him, nursing his blood-covered hair. He needed to see the school doctor.

"Out of the way, peasant," Cassandra kneed me at the head. I yelped as I lost my grip in Zack's head and it fell on the gravel with a thud. He scrunched his face, muffling a scream.

"Zacky, get up, or we're done," Cassandra cooes. She was just standing there next him, hands against her waist.

Zack didn't budge, he just laid there, slowly creeping into unconsciousness. I rose and took him by his shoulders, ignoring Cassandra's amusing glare. She grabbed my arm, but I was faster. I twisted it a little, making sure her precious bony claws were still in contact.

"Don't try me, blondie," I growled, then I was helped by the doctor in picking up the unconscious Zack.

"Threaten all you like, Reese, but he'll never like you. As they say, try and try until you die," Cassandra spat back, throwing her manicured fingers right at my nose.

I grabbed the collar of her lacy top, and gazed at her acknowledgingly, "Who said I wanted him to like me?"

But at the back of my mind I wanted him to. I let her go and walked after the doctor towards the infirmary, not even looking back at the lady baboon who was fuming with rage, as she once again was humiliated.
