Chapter 8

Camila woke to a buzzing sound. Slowly, she opened her eyes expecting the blinding morning sun. Instead, her eyes welcomed the darkness of the hospital room, the only lights coming from the various machines that Lauren was connected to and the moon outside.

She carefully untangled her limbs from Lauren's and smiled down at her softly, grateful to have met the girl. The Latina ran her fingers along her friend's jawline, simply admiring the view, before she heard the buzzing sound again.

She got up and made her way around to Lauren's bedside table where the sleeping girl's phone was going off. Camila looked back to Lauren, feeling that it was wrong to look at her phone, but when the device vibrated for a third time, she decided to go against her gut.

Lauren had seven missed calls, a handful of voicemails, and twenty text messages from someone called Jadey with the heart eye emoji next to it. Camila's mind clicked instantly thinking back to Dinah's recollection of Lauren and Jade. She felt a pang of jealousy as she remembered that they had dated for three years.

Curiosity as to why the light haired girl would be trying to reach out to Lauren when it was obvious that they hadn't spoken in a long time caused Camila to swipe right on the phone to unlock it. She sighed when the device required a password consisting of an unknown amount of letters. Camila tried the first thing that came to mind, Jadey, and rolled her eyes when the phone unlocked. She scanned through a few of the texts quickly..

Laur, are you okay?

Please answer me, we need to talk.

I know what you're thinking of doing, please don't do it.

Laur? Please...

The last messaged caught Camila's attention..

Are you dating that brown haired girl from the diner? Is that why you won't answer me? Please just let me know that you're okay. I love you.

Camila quickly locked the phone. Jade thought that she and Lauren were dating? Were they? They had kissed a few times, but they had barely known each other a week. Camila certainly liked the raven haired girl, but she wasn't so sure that Lauren felt the same. It still seemed likely that Lauren was in love with Jade, seeing as how her phone password was still her name.

Camila sighed as she made her way back to her side of the bed. Instead of lying back down, she sat next to Lauren, silently observing her in the dim lightning. Her lips were slightly parted, but there was a small smile on her lips. Raven hair was spread out unevenly and created a contrast on the white pillow. Camila smiled and kissed Lauren on her cheek.

"Goodnight, Lo," she whispered before making her way out into the bright hallway. It was much less crowded than when she and her friends first arrived, and for that she was thankful. As she walked past the front desk, the blonde rolled her eyes at the young brunette. Camila simply smiled back before she headed towards the elevator.

"Camila?" an unfamiliar voice spoke. She turned in its direction and saw Lauren's mom smiling tiredly at her.

"Hi Mrs. Jauregui, I was just leaving," Camila spoke feeling a bit awkward, had her mom seen her in bed with Lauren? She flushed at the thought.

"Do you have a ride home?"

Realization crossed Camila's face, "Not unless Dinah is still around?"

"She and Normani left a while ago, but I can give you a ride," Clara offered.

Camila thought about this for a moment before agreeing to the kind suggestion.

Not long after, the duo piled into Clara's SUV and turned in the direction of Camila's house.
