Chapter 17

«I Am Fire.»

Faye's POV

I ran back to Rue and hid back in our hole panting heavily.

"Well?" She asked.

"Got district 4 girl." I said taking off the bag. "Tracker Jackers." I said. Suddenly I hear a cannon fire, that's the second one today.

"Who do you think they've got?" Rue asks.

"I'm unsure. But that means less of us to kill." I say smiling. I suddenly start thinking of Peeta, did he survive? "I got stung." I moaned holding onto my arm.

Wait why do I care if he lived? Peeta's part of the careers! It was just to get sponsors. I'm so stupid in kissing him, it was just to get my trust.

"I have leaves, they draw out the poison." She chewed up a load of leaves then put them on the wound. "I also got berries for us to eat." They were the berries I threw away the other day, turns out they're okay!

"Thanks Rue." I said giving her a one-armed hug.

"When's part two?" Rue asks as we hear someone walk by. I stay still and put my bow out to investigate. I see who it is, so does Rue. "Thresh!" Rue ran over and gave him a hug, I didn't lower my weapon. "It's okay Faye, he won't hurt me." That's what makes me lower it.

"Why are you here?" I asked.

"To be honest I miss meat, I've been hiding in the wheat field. The careers wouldn't come and get me since it's my strength. I came here yesterday and Rue told me your plan. You're playing with fire." He admitted.

"I am fire." I smirk back. "I'm leaving tomorrow, I have a rabbit wrapped up in my parachute. Your welcome to have it." We walk to the hole and sit down in it. We light a fire and make sure there's little smoke.

"I'm rather fond of Rue. She's sweet, she didn't deserve this." Thresh said looking at the sleeping Rue a little while later.

"You're welcome to stay with us." I suggest, it would be good to have Thresh as an ally.

"I think it would be to hard to stay, I know Rue's going to never see me again after the games. When you come back I'll leave."

"Rue reminds me of Prim. My best friends sister. The one I volunteered for. I feel like I have to protect them, else they would be all alone. Please don't kill us while we sleep."

"After hearing your plan I wouldn't dream of it." I closed my eyes and fell asleep feeling surprisingly safe.

When I woke up, Rue was still asleep and I saw a parachute nearby. Who was it for?

"Morning." Thresh said as I sat up.

"Morning, I best be going before Rue wakes up, I have a job to do." I stood up and started to walk off. I grabbed the parachute and opened it.

'You look odd without a hat. Your plan? Really? - H' I laughed a little before looking at the black army hat with three gold buttons on the side. I put it on and turned to Thresh.

"Never without a hairpiece. Good luck girl on fire." He says. I had left them with a few things but I took mostly all my things. I climbed through the trees before taking a drink. Thresh had about ten bottles all pure which was lucky. I sit in a tree and see something odd.

I start by singing a few notes and they copy. I also found they provide a beat. Not a proper beat but a nice one, I could sing fairly well. Maybe they will supply the beat for me! So with that I start.
