3 Years Later"Come on Roy!" I yelled as I began to gather my things looking at the clock knowing that if we didn't leave in ten minutes we would be late again. "Five more minutes was half an hour ago!"
I opened the door to the bedroom to find Roy still in bed under the sheets. Picking up one of his shoes from the floor I threw it at him, yet he didn't move a muscle. "Roy get up now."
"Alright wouldn't want to anger the ex assassin" Roy joked as he finally got out of bed. "I like living."
Only a couple of days ago did I finally tell Roy about my past, one of the reasons why I hadn't done it earlier was simple because I thought that he wouldn't believe me. That he would think I was out of my mind.
Not many people would believe a girl that they found on the street if she told them that she was running away from a secret group of assassins. Had it been anyone else they would have thought I belonged in Arkham Asylum.
I didn't have to wait long before he was ready to go, grabbing an apple from the counter and heading out the door.
"Diane! Hurry up or we're going to be late again!" He yelled from outside, and with a sigh I stepped outside and locked the apartment.
Once we were outside the apartment building we began our daily walk down to the car shop where we both worked. Roy put his arm around my shoulders as we continued to walk down to the shop. We walked in a comfortable silence for a couple of minutes before Roy came to a stop.
"You didn't think that I would forget your birthday did you?" Roy whispered as he removed his arm from around me and as he put his hand inside his pocket looking for something.
"Well, if I remember correctly you forgot about it last year." I replied, remembering how he apologized for almost an entire week. Birthday's to me didn't mean much, they were never celebrated in The League. But when I told Roy this he vowed to celebrate my birthday every year.
"I know but I plan on making it up to you this year."
"Honestly Roy I didn't remember that it was my birthday." I told him truthfully. "This really is nothing you have to worry about."
"This really is nothing you have to worry about." He mimicked as he continued to look through the various pockets on his clothes. "You're starting to sound like your old self Doll Face, be careful."
I rolled my eyes at the nickname as I began to walk down the street, Roy quickly caught up with me and once again made me come to a stop. "Roy..."
"I found it." He said with a smiled as he held out a silver chained bracelet. "Give me your hand."
I couldn't imagine how long he had to save to be able to afford this gift. We could hardly way the bills to our small one bedroom apartment. Seeing my hesitation Roy reached out and clipped the bracelet around my wrist.
"Roy..."
"Look." He said as he brought my attention to the two charms hanging of the bracelet. They were simple, but they meant so much. Two simple charms of the letters D and R. "I was thinking a new charm every year. That way I don't have to put much thought in another gift you know?"
There was no hiding the smile on my face as I immediately wrapped my arms around him in a tight hug. "Thank you."
"Anything for you Doll Face." He replied as he placed a kiss on my forehead. "No lets go before old man Carson yells at us again for being late."
