Million Dollar Baby (Chapter 14)

*Chapter 14*

"There's a hundred and four days,

Of summer vacation, 

And school comes along just to end it,

So the annual problem, 

Of our generation,

Is finding a good way to spend it, 

Like maybe!...."

I groaned as I opened my eyes and Saw Noelle sitting on the couch next to my head. She was clapping ans smiling at the TV and I wondered what happened. Had I fell asleep?

I yawned and sat up, looking around. Sure enough, Jaimie and Todd were still here and sitting on the other couch. They smiled at me as I go up.

"Hey," I spoke, my voice all croaky. "What are you guys still doing here?"

"Well, after a while you started to fall asleep and so we just stayed to watch Noelle. I hope you don't mind." She said and smiled a little.

"Not at all. I usually don't take naps when it's just me and her because I have to constantly worry about what she'll be getting into of I'm not paying attention to her. So, thanks." I chuckled.

"No problem. She was no trouble at all." She smiled in the direction Noelle was.

"Hmm," I said getting up. "Do you guys want something to eat? I'm going to make something because I'm hungry." I rubbed my stomach as I walked out of the room and to the kitchen.

"Sure," Jaimie said.

"Yeah, I'll take some of whatever you're making." Todd mumbled distracted by whatever he was doing on his phone now.

I walked into the kitchen nd found a pack of hamburger in the freezer. I grabbed it out and sat it in a huge bowl of hot water to thaw. I had just bought it so it wasn't all the way frozen yet, but I just wanted to make sure I didn't have any random frozen spots in there.

While I was waiting for that I got the stuff out to make a salad. I thought about my conversation with Jaimie and Todd as I got busy cutting up cucumbers, tomatoes, and eggs. I understood what they were saying about it being wrong to keep Noelle away from Tanner but some small part of me still didn't think he deserved to know. What if Tanner got to know her and then suddenly decided he didn't want her? Then he'd ditch her the same way he ditched me and I didn't want my daughter to have to go through that.

I honestly think I would kill Tanner if he ever did that and then she'd have no dad or mom. I grumbled to myself as I finished the salad and got started on the hamburger helper. When that was finished, I put everything on the tabled and called them in to eat.

Jaimie came in carrying Noelle with Todd right behind her. "Smells good." She grinned and Noelle smiled and tried to imitate what she'd said.
