Something Was About To Pop Off
MAINE.
Life had been good. Apart from losing those who have died; everything else was picking up.
Me and Nayah were good. Very good. We were always together. Always staying with each other and looked after the kids together. I was even around her for the whole of her pregnancy which I missed for the twins. I couldn't wait for our son to be born.Yeah I said it. Our son. Regardless of the results I plan on taking care of him like I do mines. Like Nayah does with Hope. Not saying it's going to be easy but it's definitely going be worth it.
"Babe..."
I looked at Nayah knowing when she calls me like that it's when she wants something. She laughed and continued.
"...I think I want a baby shower now."
"What? Nayah. You due any minute now."
"Exactly! And the midwife, the nurse and every damn body said he's very comfortable so I'ma be late. I don't wanna be late."
"So how is a baby shower gon change that?"
"Maybe if the baby hears all the excitement he will come."
She laughed as she said it and I had to laugh.
"Nayah if you want a baby shower you can have a baby shower."
"Thank you Ro!" She said laying there looking uncomfortable.
"You want me to invite everyone?"
"Yup."
"Everyone Nayah?"
I meant the Dread.
"Hell naw. He don't deserve an invite. All he does is message my phone talking about second chances and all that shit. When his priority; if any, should be about my son. So no. He doesn't qualify as everyone."
I nodded and smiled. I needed to have words with this dread because he needs to chill with all that second chance shit.
I hollered at the guys, Rochelle and Princess and told them we need to get this baby shower going this weekend. Everyone was okay with it. Or so I thought.
"So what? I don't exist again?" I heard Layla say.
I picked up my niece who was growing very quickly.
"Of course you do sis. No one wants to rush you though. It's whenever you ready, then we all here."
"Good. Because I'm ready. I think. I won't know until I try to live a normal life again. I love Reese and always will. Lil Reesey is a constant reminder of him so I ain't ever gon forget him but I can't stay sad forever. I need to live on. If not for me then for him and my daughter."
I smiled. I could have told her that. But it was something she had to realize on her own.
"Well the girls said they was gon go to the mall and get some stuff. Shout them and tell them you wanna go."
