Narrative POV- Third Person
"Finn, do you have a crush on Millie?" As the words left Caleb's, Finn felt his heart sink.
He didn't want to ruin his friendship with Millie, but he couldn't live with just being friends and never knowing if they had a chance.
Finn was full on panicking, his palms were sweaty and his cheeks were bright red. This is it. Finn took a deep breath.
Millie was paying very close attention, heart beating faster. Finn had no idea. What will he say? What will he do? I have to wait and hear him say it, Millie thinks to herself. She felt her cheeks get warmer.
"I do," Finn says.
The whole group was silent for a good minute. Millie didn't know what to feel.
Finn stared at Millie, trying to read her expression. He couldn't tell what she was thinking at all. Oh GOD he thought to himself.
"I knew it," Gaten whispered happily to Caleb. But both Millie, Finn, and Noah could still hear him.
"Finn, I-I..." Millie trailed off. They'd been friends, best friends, for almost three years now.
How could this be happening? What would happen to their friendship?
Finn's POV
I knew it, she doesn't feel the same way. She just stares at the darkening sky, completely taken by surprise.
"Finn, I-I..." I imagine her swallowing her words, trying not to hurt my feelings.
I can almost feel tears welling up in my eyes. Gaten, Caleb, and Noah were silent, not knowing what to make of the awkward situation.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, it starts to rain, a second ago, the sky was completely clear! What's happening?
Noah just lays down in the grass, soaking in the rain. Caleb tries to hide under his jacket, but it has no hood, so it's not very effective. Gaten does the same as Noah, except he's silently giggling.
Millie, still facing the sky, closes her eyes.
Another minute passes by. "Finn, do..." Millie swallows, like she can't continue.
By now we're all soaking wet, but nobody really seems to care about that.
She doesn't feel the same way, I don't want her to feel uncomfortable, I still want her to be my friend. I have to say something.
"Millie, it's okay. You don't have t-"
My words are cut off, by a pair of soft lips touching mine gently. A surge of pure warmth and electric butterflies flow through my whole body.
I open my eyes for a second and see Millie, right as she's pulling away, her beautiful brown eyes glimmering, water dripping from her almost bob-length hair.
Gaten sits up from the grass, with a huge goofy grin on his face. Caleb looks in shock, possibly even skeptical of what just happened, and it looks like Noah just missed the whole thing and has no clue. He's still laying on the soaking wet grass.
"Millie, I-" I try to say.
Millie whispers in my ear, so nobody can hear, "Love you."
She finished my sentence for me. I brush a lock of dripping-wet hair off her forehead. My face mere inches from hers.
Noah gets up, "What's going on? Gaten? Caleb... Oh, OH."
We all laugh.
I've dreamt about this moment a few times before, it was even more perfect than I hoped for.
Millie is perfect. Tonight was perfect.
