"Hey, guys, what happened to Millie and Sadie?" asked Noah.
"Well I saw them come in, but that was like 30 minutes ago" stated Caleb.
"Come on guys, don't panic" said Gaten, "they're probably in some corridor or classroom just making out...or more" he said, wiggling his eyebrows, earning him a whack across the stomach.
"Dude!" said Finn, "that's Millie you're talking about, remember? She's, like, one of your best friends, she's my cousin, don't say it like that."
Gaten thought for a minute and screwed his face up, "yeah, no, you're right, sorry guys...it's like talking about my sister, ewwww...in that case when they get back I'm going to have words with Sadie!"
"Gaten, dude, lay off the punch for a bit, ok?" insisted Caleb, laughing at his sudden turnaround.

Eventually, Millie and Sadie made their way to the table and took their seats. Looking at them both, Finn could see that something was a bit off, but not wanting to ruin the night didn't say anything. He knew that if Millie wanted to talk about it she would come to him, as she had many times before. Turning to Marina, "hey, do you, erm, want to dance?" he asked, nervously.
Her face lit up, "yes, absolutely." Everyone else had the good grace to keep their smirks under wraps until they were far away from the table.
"Aww, cute" said Sadie, smiling. Millie couldn't help but nod in agreement, watching them dance awkwardly together in the crowd, Finn being extra careful where he put his hands. One by one the gang found partners to dance with, leaving Sadie and Millie sitting together at the table. "I think I know what you're nervous about" stated Sadie, "I mean, what you're nervous about here" she clarified, thinking back to their earlier conversation.
Millie just looked at her, "what are you talking about?"
"You didn't want to get out of the car, you dragged me somewhere private to kiss me, even now you don't like people seeing the real you, do you?" Millie slumped and held her head in her hands. "Look around you, this has to be the most inclusive prom ever, every single person here tonight is able to come and just be who they really are without being judged. Look, the skaters have their baggy clothes on, the hipsters their skinny jeans, the nerds their sci-fi T's, and every stereotype in between...why is it that the one person who inspired all this can't be herself?"
Millie looked up with glistening eyes and shook her head, "I don't know..."
"You're breaking my heart, Millie, I can't see you like this anymore. Come with me" she instructed, standing and holding out her hand.
Millie took it and stood up too, "where are we going?"
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes" Millie answered, not missing a beat.
Sadie led her to the middle of the dance floor, she could see her shoulders tensing up, her eyes lowering until she was facing the floor. Sadie caressed her cheek, "look at me" she said softly, so only Millie could hear her over the music. They were surrounded by people dancing, some well, others definitely not so well, couples up close and personal, others dancing in groups. "Dance with me" she said, putting one hand on Millie's waist and holding Millie's hand in her other, pulling her close till Sadie was all Millie could see, everyone else just fading away.
Millie closed her eyes and started moving in time to the music with Sadie, trying to forget she was surrounded by people. She started to get into it more, allowing Sadie to lead her and guide her movements, eventually she opened her eyes and smiled at Sadie, who smiled back and said "you're doing great." They danced for a few more songs, occasionally glimpsing the rest of the gang doing the same with various people and varying degrees of skill, clearly having a great time. Everyone broke apart and looked to the stage when someone tapped the mic.
"OKAY, I hope everyone is having a great time" said Jennifer, lead prom organiser, to which a rumble of 'yeahs!' answered. "Cool, I can't believe how successful this has been so far, you guys all look awesome, and it's the biggest turnout ever!" she said to applause. "So, it's time to do the cheesy, but traditional, crowning...normally you guys vote for king and queen, but we opened it right up this year and just wanted individual names, so without further ado..." the DJ put on a drumroll, "can Marina and Finn please make their way up!?"
Finn's face went bright red and Marina just looked shocked. "Come on you idiots" said Noah, pushing them towards the stage.
"Applause for the prom king and queen!" Everyone started clapping and cheering wildly, Caleb and Gaten jumping up and down drunkenly, Millie smiling proudly. Everyone watched as they were crowned and applauded as they walked, red faced, to the centre of the dance floor for their dance.
They danced for only a minute before Marina whispered something in Finn's ear and, nodding, they broke apart and he walked towards the crowd. Bowing down he offered his hand, "may I have the honor of this dance?" When he didn't get an answer, "please?" he said. He was met by an embarrassed Millie being shoved towards him by Sadie, 'thanks' he mouthed to her. Practically dragging a very reluctant Millie to the center of the room, they started dancing.
"I hate you, Wolfhard" she said, completely red faced from embarrassment.
"I love you too, Millie" he smirked back, pushing her away, then pulling her back twirling.
Sadie watched them dancing with a smile on her face, but after a minute or two, despite knowing Finn is her cousin, and that it was a cute gesture of Marina's, she couldn't help the feeling growing inside that she was jealous that he was getting to dance with Millie and not her. Without thinking further, she walked to the dancing pair and stopped them, causing them to look at her in surprise, and everyone else to stop talking and watch.
"May I cut in?" she asked, probably more forcefully than was really necessary.
Finn immediately smiled and, bowing slightly, said "of course." He walked back over to Marina so they could continue their dance, while Sadie and Millie just stood looking at each other.
Slowly putting both hands on Millie's waist, Sadie started moving again to the music, Millie following her lead and putting her arms on Sadie's shoulder. Without realising it Millie found herself getting closer and closer to Sadie, and was powerless to stop herself leaning in and kissing her gently on the lips, a kiss which Sadie gladly returned. They stopped when the song came to an end, and Millie came to a sudden realization, "Sadie...everyone's looking at us..." she whispered.
"Let them look" said Sadie with utter assurance, "if they don't like it, fuck 'em" she added, making Millie laugh loudly and kiss her again.
The prom king and queen's special dance over, the music started up again and everyone went back to dancing, and some people back to a little bit of drinking.

A/N hey, FYI after this there are only 2 more chapters, I've already written them and feel kind of bereft.
I was going to post them both straight away but I think I'll post Chapter 35 tomorrow, and the Epilogue ('cause I'm cheesy like that) the day after
