Lyla woke up from her nightmare sputtering, choking, and soaking wet. Not her ideal awakening. She rolled over on her queen sized bed, coughing up the last of the water while a chipper voice chimed in her ear," Rise and shine, Angel! Aren't you excited? It's your first day!"Lyla quickly scurried out of bed to face the infuriating boy who just dumped a bucket of ice cold water on her. The teen glowered at a mischievous Peter Pan who had plastered on his boyish, charming smile. He looked so impish and cute, but not enough to curb Lyla's hate for him in that moment.
"What the fricking hell was that for Pan?" Lyla ground out.
"What? You didn't like the ice water? What a shame," Peter giggled like a 5 year old while looking the newest Lost girl up in down. She looked like a half drowned cat. A very cute half drowned cat though... Pan thought. Lyla glared at him until he sobered up and stopped laughing.
"Be ready in 20 minutes, Love. You've got training. Normally, I give newbies the tour of Neverland on the first day, but we're going to have to postpone it. I have something I need to take care of today."
Lyla, still fuming over her rude awakening, answered, "Fine. Just get the hell out of my treehouse."
"As you wish," Pan winked coquettishly at her before disappearing in a billow of sickly black smoke. Lyla shook her head at Peter Pan'a theatrics and opened her new closet.
"Such a fricking drama queen," she muttered to herself.
The teen girl changed into the outfit she picked out, wondering where Pan even found modern girl's clothes. Dressed in fresh underwear, Lyla unconsciously touched her star shaped birthmark on her collarbone while she decided on what to wear. She picked simple black leggings and a dark green long sleeve, paired with light weight, dark brown boots. She brushed her damp mocha brown hair into a ponytail exited her treehouse via rope ladder.
Once on the ground, Lyla started her short trek back to the Lost Boy's camp. She was greeted by Apollo, who had the most adorable case of bed head, when she arrived.
"Hey, lucky you, I'm going to be your mentor for awhile since Felix is really busy with Pan lately," Apollo started and walked her over to the dining table with a few Lost Boys chatting and enjoying breakfast. He sat down and motioned for her to do the same.
Lyla smiled gratefully and sat down next to the dirty blonde who was focused on raking his hands through his messy hair, trying to tame it. "Yeah, lucky me. I'd take you over Scarface any day." Lyla grinned at him while reaching for a plate of eggs and fruit.
Apollo just laughed, and in between bites of his breakfast and quickly explained what they were doing today. First they were going to start training with archery, apparently Apollo's speciality. How ironic. Next knives and then sword training. They would finish with hand to hand combat. Lyla was particularly worried about the hand to hand combat. She was quick and intelligent, but physically weak and near helpless in fist fight.
The pair finished their breakfast and started toward the archery range. Before Lyla was given a bow and arrow, Apollo demonstrated and explained.
"The key is in your stance and your elbow. Keep everything steady and level. Try to exhale when you release the arrow," Apollo explained to the Lost girl while showing her how to shoot. He let the arrow fly why still talking to her. Lyla gasped when it hit the bullseye. Apollo grinned at her, proud of her reaction.
"Here," Apollo said, handing her the bow, "you try now."
Lyla took the bow from him and an arrow. She set up her stance, trying her best to mimic her mentor's posture. She knocked an arrow back and aimed.
