Routines

The Lost Boys had fallen into a routine in these last two weeks. All of them woke up at dawn, ate breakfast, and trained. They trained from dawn til dusk. There were no more games. No more laughter or play. Only training. Peter Pan had insisted on a stricter training regimen in preparation for the upcoming war with the pirates.

The whole camp was on edge after the Pirate's ambush and Declan's execution. Many were suspicious of the others being traitors, like Declan. It made the Lost Boys more aggressive than usual and wary. Multiple fights had broken out between Lost Boys who accused others of treason and aiding the pirates. The fact that Pan had been making them train non-stop didn't help ease the tension. Or the fact that Pan was almost never actually there. Without their fearless leader, the boys seemed to lack direction other than "train to beat the pirates". It caused problems to say the least.

Peter Pan had fallen into a routine of relentlessly searching for the girl from the prophecy: the girl with the Mark of Star. The girl he didn't know was right under his nose. Pan sent his shadow out to search every realm and journeyed everyday to various seers and magic wielders. He searched high and low for the girl over the past two weeks, but had no luck.

Lyla was incredibly grateful that Peter Pan was almost always absent. She wanted to distance herself from that monster as much as possible after what he did to Declan. She still had nightmares. Declan's teeth littering the floor, his ripped out eyeballs staring at her. Declan screaming at her for not helping her. Pan giving her the same torture. It was embedded in her mind. Variations and plays on Declan's torture and death routinely starred in Lyla's nightmares.

As Pan searched frantically for the Girl with the Mark of Star (her), Lyla grew increasingly anxious. It was only a matter of time before the boy king discovered what she'd been hiding. One of these seers or wizards were bound to expose her. It terrified Lyla: what Peter might do to her when he found out. She'd rather die than live in a cage.

Lyla had fallen into another routine as well. She'd wake up from her nightmares and immediately travel to the Cliff. She'd sit and the very edge and just gaze into the dark, misty abyss. Every morning she'd look down at the rocks below and contemplate it. It seemed so extreme, but Lyla knew it was her only safety net. She wouldn't live in a cage for eternity. If she was forced to, she'd throw herself off the Cliff.

Lyla and Apollo had also fallen into an incredibly tedious routine of petty fighting. They'd take a break from training and go off to argue at the edge of camp. Much like they were doing today, right now. They spoke in tense, hushed whispers on the outside of camp.

"Lyla! This is ridiculous! You need to tell him!" Apollo whisper-yelled at her, eyebrows furrowed and frown set.

"I can't! You know this! You know what he'll do to me!"
Lyla responded in kind, frustrated with her friend's lack of understanding.

"You can't just let him search to the ends of the Earth for the girl who will save his life when you're right here. It's not right!" The dirty blonde exclaimed, exasperated, running a hand through his hair.

"Apollo he'll shove me in a cage and throw away the key. I'd be better off dead."

Apollo's eyebrow twitched in annoyance. He asked her accusingly,"Lyla, how can you do this? We owe him everything for saving us, giving us a home. Doesn't that mean anything to you?"

The Lost Girl's temper rose. "Speak for yourself Apollo. I don't owe him a damn thing. I didn't choose to come to this god forsaken island! I was kidnapped!"

"Are you seriously telling me that you aren't happier now than you were there?" Apollo argued, not comprehending why Lyla couldn't agree with his logic.
