The next few days were spent with the police and trying to figure out where Christine's parents were. Erik didn't like being around the police but he would do anything for Christine. They police workers had been nice to Erik, even excusing his rudeness. Christine prayed every night, wishing and hoping for this. When she saw that people were being nice to them, she had a grin on her face and had excitement and happiness in her eyes. She said a prayer of thankfulness. She was glad society was being nice to him. But every now and then somebody would be rude to Erik and make fun of what he looked like. But somebody was always there to make that pain go away.
Christine would always keep a strong confident frame of mind. But at night when it was just her and Erik she would sit by the fireplace and cry silent tears. Praying, that her parents and everybody she cared about, was alright and safe. Erik would always comfort her and sing her to sleep.
Christine's birthday was coming soon and Erik wanted to make it extra special. He noticed that each day, when her birthday got closer, she would be more sad the next day than the last. On the evening before her birthday Erik decided to play something to brighten her mood. But really it was Christine that surprised him.
"My angel would you like me to play something for you?"
"Actually Erik, could you play accompaniment?"
"Well of course. Are you going to sing?" He noticed she also didn't sing ever since the day her ex shot her. (Fortunately he went to jail for a while, for tried murder. But since he was under the influence of alcohol, he was only going to be in jail for three months.)
"Yes, do you mind?"
"I would never mind that. Yes please do."
"I'll be right back." Christine then went upstairs to get her iPod and mini stereo. She came back and found Erik already sitting at the piano. She only smiled, not saying a word. Placing the two items on the piano, and sheet music(with just the piano notes) she pressed play and told him to start playing the piano.
Erik was confused by what she was doing, but since she was about to sing he didn't question it. Only played, but he since he didn't know the title of the song, he was surprised by what he heard. He started playing when Christine showed him to. And she started singing.
I heard a whisper that touched deep inside my soul
Like some familiar melody
A hidden chapter from a story left untold
I gotta feeling, I could believe in
There is an angel in my heart
Feels like I'm guided by a candle in the dark
It's taken all this time
To finally find out what I could never see
You were there for me
Now there is no doubt that there will always be
An angel in my heart
You were the friend, you were the one I could confide in
You gave me strength that I could never find
Deep emotions that I've always been denying
I believe in, it's so close now, it's you that I'm feeling
There is an angel in my heart
Feels like I'm guided by a candle in the dark
It's taken all this time
To finally find out what I could never see
