Even though I have said this a million times in my head, the words still struggle to come out of my mouth. "I love you", they stumble out in a shaky voice that is not my own and land on the cold, hard floor between us. The words feel like a foreign, exotic dish that, though beautiful, tastes horrible.
One. Two. Three. Four seconds.
We both stare at the pathetic pile of words lying at your feet, no words coming out of either mouths.
You know when you put a big, juicy red cherry in your mouth, only to find that it's rotten? That's what my mouth tastes like - bitter and rotten, and just a tinge of disappointment and regret. I bite at my lips until the leaded taste of blood consumes me.
Five. Ten. Fifteen seconds.
Your face is blank and silence hangs like a blanket between us, making me gasp for air. There are too many unsaid words, too many emotions swirling inside me. The floor is swaying beneath my feet. I feel like I'm drowning, my emotions are filling up my lungs and I can''t breath.
Twenty. Twenty one. Twenty two. Twenty three seconds.
A cool drop of water slides down my lips and lands on my tongue. It's salty. Another drop follows. They keep coming.
Twenty four. Twenty five. Twenty six.
You look down at the words and I keep counting.
Twenty seven. Twenty eight. Twenty nine.
You look yo and our eyes meet. The drops keep falling, from my eyes to my mouth.
Thirty.
A lopsided grin breaks across your mouth. "I love you too."
I am still drowning. But you're here with me and everything's okay.
Look who remembered she has a wattpad account!! I'm sorry. Really, truly sorry I stopped writing for this long. BUT! It won't happen again (hopefully)
