Chapter 13

Alex's POV

I woke up to the guy that I loved. I smiled at his sleeping body.

"Morning Lex" Kimi said smirking.

She was like a daughter to me, the best daughter I could ever wish for.

I walked over to her and kissed her temple.

"Morning" I said, earning a smile from her.

"I'm back!" I heard Luke from the living room, hearing the door shut behind him.

"Where did he go?" I asked Kimi.

"Just out to get food. He promised squirrel" she replied, walking out of the room.

I decided to let Jack sleep and followed Kimi out into the kitchen. Surprisingly, Luke had brought not one but, two squirrels. Both somehow cooked.

"Jesus Luke! Did you steal" Kimi said surprised.

"No I just cooked it outside"

"Dayuuuuuum" I said jokingly, causing Luke and Kimi to laugh.

- Kimi's POV -

I was surprised that Luke got TWO squirrels. Winter was just around the corner and animals were going into hibernation. That's why Kylah, myself and Jack were planning on going hunting before it began to rain.

Of course, I wasn't going to complain.

We spilt the two squirrels, leaving some for Kylah, Jack and Clementine.

"Damn, this is good" I told Luke and the rest.

"Thank you" Luke said with a cheeky tone before taking a bite of his own piece.

Kylah soon walked out, rubbing her dark, brown eyes due to the light from the windows.

"Morning sweet pea" Luke said to Kylah, smiling.

Kylah walked up Luke, giving him a peck on the lips.

"Morning" she said smiling back.

Luke handed her her piece of the squirrel. Kylah grabbed it and immediately took a bite.

"Where did you get this? It's damn good" Kylah asked us.

"Luke went out to get it" I said, regretting it right after it slipped out of my mouth.

Kylah worried about Luke. She didn't like him going out alone and she hated being this protective of him. She didn't want to hold him back but, he understood why she was so protective of him.

"Kylah..I'm so-" Luke got cut off.

"No! It's fine" she said, smiling at him.

Her smile slightly appeared fake and Luke could tell. Alex remained silence.

Luke just sighed and closed his eyes.

"Is Clem still sleeping?" I asked, changing the subject.

Kylah just nodded and continued to eat. Hunting today might be a bit awkward.

- Jack's POV -

I woke up in a fit of coughing. I wasn't choking, I was just coughing. I suddenly stopped when Alex came into the room.

"You alright?" he asked with concern in his eyes.

A sudden shot of pain when through my head and I began to cough once more.

"Are you sick?" Alex asked, looking straight into my eyes.

"It seems so.." I whispered.

It then ponded on me, "Shit! I'm going hunting today though"

"Just stay here" I said, leaving him and walking out the door.

- Luke's POV -

I was deep in thought as I sat alone on the couch. Kylah had went in our bedroom to talk with Clem and Kimi was cleaning dishes. Alex was with Jack in their room.

I thought about life, the shit world I live in. My friends, wife and a little girl that was so close to me that I considered her my child. My life had its ups and downs.

My thought train was soon interrupted by Alex.

"Luke..Jack is sick and I want to stay home with him. Do you mind going?" Alex said, taking a seat next to me.

At least I'll have the ability to protect Kylah and I'll be proud of anything I collect.

"Sure..just watch Clem for me please?" I asked.

"Of course" he said, removing himself from the couch.

I soon heard a door shut and decided to talk to Clem.

I got up and opened the door to the bedroom I stayed in slowly. I heard the laughter of the two girls I loved and cared for the most.

After their laughing fits, they both looked at me. Clementines face lit up. I took a seat next to her.

"Clem, I going with mom-" I suddenly stopped.

"Mom?" Clem questioned. Kylah just looked at me.

"I mean Kylah..me and Kylah are going hunting with Kimi since Jack is sick. Alex is going to watch you, ok?" I told her.

"Ok? Bye Luke!" she said, hugging me.

I hugged back and smiled at her cuteness.

I got up, exiting the room. I noticed Kylah following me as I closed the door.

"Come on you two!" Kimi yelled from behind the front door.

Kylah and I already had our things so we began to make our way to the door.

"You're really good with her" Kylah said in a whisper.

"Thanks" I said, smiling.

This trip might not be so awkward.
