The Goth Boy
Chapter 5
Silence. Here I sat in the middle of English class, everyone was talking away with their partners. But me? Nope. Cole hasn't said a single word to me since he sat down twenty minutes ago. We're supposed to be thinking about ideas for our project and all he has done was glare at me.
He had this very distant look on his face. Something was wrong, I just didn't know what. He looked deadly and I was scared that if I made any sudden movement he'd murder me.
This was utterly awkward. I shifted in my seat unsure of what to say, how to act around people like him. I don't think I've ever been this unsure of how to act in my life.
"You know talking helps," Zoe whispered as she shoved her elbow into my rib cage as she walked by. I held back a whince. Did she constantly forget I'm bruised from the toes up? She wouldn't be saying that if she got stuck with some guy who she liked and also beat her up daily. I stuck out my tongue at her in return like the child I still was at heart. I could see her eyes roll right through her big nerd glasses. I focused back onto the subject of the project wondering if the whole time we work on these projects it will be this awkward.
I opened my mouth to speak but Cole surprisingly cut me off.
"I don't feel like doing this." He muttered playing around with his blue pen. I sat still too afraid to move. So I glanced down at my paper and didn't look up until I heard footsteps. Mrs. Briggs sauntered over towards us with a disappointed look on her old, wrinkly face.
"What have you guys got so far?" She asked peering over her round glasses at the empty piece of paper lying on Cole's desk.
"Do you guys plan on passing for the semester?" She asked preparing a long lecture. We nodded hoping she'd save it for later. Her lectures were worse than other teachers. They literally make you feel like you want to eat a brick.
"Alright how about this, detention for you both after school today," She planting a giant fake smile and walked away. Detention? Now I know she did not just say detention? With Cole? As in me and Cole alone in a room for an hour?
"You've got to be kidding me," He muttered annoyed. His dirty blonde hair was messy showing off his perfectly defined features. He made a face to Hunter and his other friends, in which they laughed. I shrunk into my seat wishing it would swallow me up.
Don't people know that they can tell your hinting about them? Now that I think about it, I'm stupid. Really, really stupid. Who on earth has a crush on their bully? Who in their right mind would even risk saying it in their mind? Me, clearly.
It made no sense because I had no chance. I wasn't athletic like the jocks, nor did I have abs. I had spaghetti arms and you could probably knock me over with just a slight poke. Not to mention he was a heterosexual. It was hopeless really. I mean, who would pick a daisy in a field of roses?
The rest of the day went by painfully slow. Gym was, well gym. Dodge ball was once again the game of the day. I swear the gym teachers just hate me. Cole and his best friend Hunter caught up with me in the halls again.
Hunter was Portuguese with naturally dark skin and black hair. He was a typical jock, also on the football team. They didn't have the time to spare so all I received were a few insults.
So here I was standing in the middle of the detention room. In front of me was a bunch of empty desks with only two others filled. Cole sat in one seat looking very bored, the other kid I didn't even recognize.
The teacher who was supposed to be keeping watch, was sound asleep with his head on piles of paper. The urge to just walk out of here was strong, but I knew that with my luck he'd wake up to find me not here.
