"I'm in trouble I'm an addict" I began singing as I neared Zoe's house. My black checkered vans were kicking rocks as I walked.
"I'm addicted to this boy, he's got my heart tied in a knot and my stomach in a whirl." One of my favorite songs by Christofer Drew. I switched around the 'shes' to 'he's'. Girls are gross.
"But even worse I can't stop calling him, he's all I want and more. I mean damn, what's not to adore?" I wish I had the courage to call Cole. What would I even say to him? Sorry, wrong number or I must've butt-dialed you, oops. I got quieter the closer I got to the steps. I could sing in front of Zoe but Cole? Hell no.
I walked up to the steps to Zoe's house rather quickly. I was pumped to see Cole and finally get to spend time with him even if it was just for a stupid project. So I didn't get the job at the bowling alley. Surprise surprise right. I mean it can't be much a shocker since I told the manager that I like to play with balls. Let's just say, they wasted no time in calling me the second I left the alley. It's their loss after all. Who wouldn't want an employee who's dedicated to the balls?
I faintly knocked on the door even though I already texted Zoe I was near. I was way too awkward of a human being to knock. She always tells me to just walk in but how do people do that comfortably? Do people actually do that? What if someone was cooking breakfast naked or something? Talk about breakfast sausage.
"Shane, you can just walk in you know." Zoe emphasized the 'can' as she ripped open the door to her luxurious house. I shrugged, she knows I'm too awkward of a person to do that. My family has always lived paycheck to paycheck, our furniture was all antique looking. My mom says it looks 'rustic'. The Montgomery house was much more modern. I've never seen Alfie's house, I wonder what it looked like.
"Where's Cole?" I asked nervously. My tongue continuously ran over my lip ring. Zoe looked slightly upset I didn't come here for her but her brother instead.
"He's downstairs, come on." She said taking my hand as led me to the basement. I know what this sounds like, a murder mystery. But that's not the case here. Their dad was super into sports. Surprising right? They turned their basement into a complete sports zone. I've only been down there to see it very few times. It was Coles territory.
It was going to take a while to get used to the thought of not having to be so jumpy around Cole. I often wonder if it was just a lie or maybe even a dare. The loud sound of boys yelling and cheering soon swarmed my ears. Boys? As in multiple? I gulped. She opened the basement door leading me down the steep stairs to the forbidden area. I played with my lip ring out of pure nervousness.
The foosball table that was once there many years ago was now replaced by a pool table. Oh, look my favorite, balls. There were long black leather couches that reclined surrounding a giant plasma television. There was a football game on and the boys were going crazy. I didn't know his friends would be here, a little heads up would have been nice. My face blushed as soon as I saw Cole.
"What is he doing here?" I recognized one of his friends but couldn't put a name to his voice. Cole was smiling until he locked eyes with me. Shit, did he forget about the deal? Was he going to beat me up? I gulped as he got up from his very comfortable looking recliner. Maybe he should just sit back down, I'll leave very quickly. Unfortunately, Cole couldn't read my mind. Or maybe that was a good thing.
He stared at me in a disappointing way. I flinched when he got closer than I had expected. He was going to punch me. I knew I made a mistake making a deal with the devil. He didn't mean it, it was all just some big prank. What was I thinking?
"Rain check? The guys are here and I really don't want them to know about our deal." He spoke quietly in hopes of not gaining any of his friend's attention. I peeked open my eye when I realized he didn't hit me. I blinked a few times just to make sure I wasn't actually knocked out and just dreaming. He gave me a weird look, probably wondering why I had my eyes closed and now I'm blinking like an idiot.
