FATE'S SECOND CHANCES

Chapter 28

Nicole was in an irritated mood it was almost 2am and her cel phone wouldn't stop ringing. Who was calling her with urgency on this forsaken hour. The caller id was Kevin her hand shook fearing something happened. She answered it immediately to hear Kevin's agitated voice.

What's wrong Kevin? Are you ok? Nicole asked in concern. She had a feeling it was something bad. You've made your trip to New York right?

I did. But you have to listen to me Nicole. You trust me don't you. That I love you so much and I won't do anything to hurt you.

You know I do off course I trust you. Nicole didn't know what Kevin was getting at. He seemed to be so distressed that she knew something was terribly wrong. Could it even involve East?

What happened Kevin? Why are you so agitated? Tell me right now! she commanded.

East will go to you. Concoct this unbelievable story about me. Feed you lies that will destroy me in your eyes. He only wants one thing and that is to destroy what we have Nicole. He loves you I can see that. I know about both your past. He's so desperate to have you that he'll go through all measures to ruin all the love we have.

Kevin went on his voice convincing even to his own ears. Knowing how stupid Nicole was she would believe every word he said. She would never believe East story one bit. She had placed all her trust in him. He had all the credibility in his words and actions not once did Nicole doubt him unlike East who had the mark of a sinner placed on his head no matter the good he did even if had to grovel and beg for her forgiveness.

Nicole had confused thoughts. East wouldn't do that. Even if he was desperate he was not the type to do something despicable to Kevin to the point of ruining him in her eyes. He had always a sense of integrity of doing the right thing even when they were young. He might be happy go lucky even irresponsible before but he was never a bad person.

East is not a bad person Kevin he won't do anything to destroy you. You may have dig up some things we shared in the past together but he's not the type to use foul play to hurt you.

Damn it just do as I say Nicole! I won't hear anymore of it! I'm protecting what we have don't you get it! I love you and whatever happens you know that I'm here and we will get married.

Okay Kevin. I'll do as you say. I won't believe him. Whatever it is he says. she said feeling resigned but she knew deep inside her that East was not the type to lie or destroy someone for his own self benefit. He might be desperate to win her love but not to that extent.

That's my girl. I love you Nicole always remember that. I'll be there tomorrow. Just trust me on this and all be well. I also don't like delays in our wedding preparations. We're getting to it once I get back.

Nicole could only agree with half a heart wondering what caused the great alarm on Kevin that he sounded so distressed and desperate. Some part of her unsure of what she really felt for Kevin to the point of delaying wedding preparations. But she had to believe him. All these two years they were together Kevin had done nothing wrong to ruin the trust she had in him. He had been extremely loving and devoted to him all those years unlike East who ruined all that they have. As she looked at her engagement ring with its clear cut diamond. Yes she would do everything to protect their love. Nothing East would do or say would prevent her from ruining their coming marriage.

It was in the bag Kevin thought delightedly to himself. Dumb Nicole who believed every word he said. Well who wouldn't? He was the perfect example of the devoted and loving boyfriend if not for this major slip up. Kevin could just imagine the haunted look in East's face at Nicole's rejection. He laughed devilishly to himself. He was not the type of person that people cross and gets away with it. He was that sort of person that got even. He was going to take his sweet revenge on East starting with a million dollar lawsuit for assault. He was going to destroy his career and run his money dry till he would be dirt poor once again. Back where he belonged. The icing in the cake was to tear his heart into shreds as he would have Nicole as his wife and shove it in his face.

Kevin Whitman could only have it all looking at Sharon sleeping naked under the covers. She stirred her eyes wide awake as she gave him a seductive smile. She rolled over to him going on top of him as held her by the waist loving every curve of her body. Her breasts round and firm. God she was incredibly sexy. No woman could ever excite him more as his lips devoured her breasts. His hands were demanding caressing roughly her female essence as she moaned in pleasure. Even with the setbacks, life was still perfect for Kevin Whitman.

East after the incident needed at least time to get his bearings straight before he talked to Nicole. He stayed up all night replaying the showdown with Kevin showing all true well the depth of how bad this person was. He was not scared of him even if he threatened to destroy his career or file a big lawsuit against him. East had gone through far much greater suffering to dwell himself on Kevin's grave threats. What was far much important to him was saving Nicole from a miserable and painful marriage. East could see what kind personality Kevin had it wouldn't be long Nicole would see his true colors. He could even be violent with her and hit Nicole when things didn't go his way.

East felt his heart ache at the thought of having Nicole as a battered wife. He would sacrifice himself first and save her with all he's got from a man in the likes of Kevin Whitman.

All he could do was be honest. Show Nicole how much he loved her. Open her eyes to the truth about Kevin and risk his heart whether it be good or bad. East was willing to take that risk hoping Nicole would believe him and give him his second chance with her. This he prayed to God with all his heart.

He had in his hand the engagement ring of his mother's. It was a three carat diamond ring it's stone still as clear cut and as beautiful. His father gave it to him before he died recalling his words. "Give it someone you love East I may never see you do that but you know I'll still be there high above watching you on your special day." He felt a bit teary eyed remembering his father. How he always wanted life to be perfect for him even if he was burdened with debt. He learned all this the hard way when he had to live life alone with no one else to rely on but himself.

East on his knees would beg her to marry him. To be his wife to show to her all his love that he will prove to her day by day as husband and wife. During his hard up times East would recall how he was tempted to sell the ring but he never did. Even if he had no money for the rent suffering humiliation as his landlord would yell at him or maybe money for his tuition at school. Some part of him never ceased to hope that someday he was going to give this ring to Nicole. East knew there was no better time but now. There was no use prolonging the truth from Nicole. East had to tell her now for her own sake.
